Gurney Plaza is definitely the IN place of all Georgetown. Compared to Pragin Mall which is about the same age, this place rocks, and it rocks BIG time. First impression as you arrive is that the facade looked modern and upmarket, the kind that makes you want to hurriedly go in and discover what's inside. And when you are inside, wow, the whole mall exudes class and sophistication. You won't find Chanel having a store at Pragin Mall, that's for sure.

Really great layout with lots of known brands. Some prices were less than at home (Australia) some were more. Open until 10pm and easy to get a Grab too or from the mall. The food courts throughout the centre were great quality and super cheap.
Next time I will try the Chinese and Indian outdoor hawker centres which are nearby.

Wow this mall is almost almost perfect. Parksons, numerous F&Bs of all types, famous red bean confectionery in B1 (Ban Hiang), cinemas, boutiques, sports, supermarket, etc
There are two massage shops too: siam oasis and Thai odyssey. Remember to make advance bookings as they are both very popular!!
I came, quite determined not to buy anything. I went back stuffing my luggage with purchases.

This rating is only concern my experience with one particular shop. Cuts Salon !
To The Owner of Cuts Salon
I am very disappointed with my stylist Ivan. I was supposed to just get my roots done with ammonia free and to match it to my choice of colours. But Ivan described as my colour is so worn out! Hence trusting him being a so called Senior Stylist, I didn’t like the finished hair colour. What’s worst was, my hair cut wasn’t properly cut or trimmed by a professional stylist. I felt it was like a junior who didn’t trim my hair or layering done well . It was like a 5 minute trim & the blow dry was terrible!!. I could easily blow it myself instead of visiting a hair salon which I paid in cash $460!
Now I need to go back to Sydney to redo my hair colour & get a proper cut,
Sorely disappointed.
No wonder he didn’t even show me the mirror the back of my hair!
Besides the disappointing hair salon experience, the Gurney Plaza is fantastic with lots of shops & food outlets. Very convenient to stay in G Hotel. Well maintained and service is great.

Usual high end shops that one can see in any high street. Prices are similar to high street outlets. It's a nice place to have a walk in the cool. What's missing is the oriental atmosphere

One of the largest shopping centers in the city. A beautiful store with an interesting interior. Opened in November 2001, managed from Singapore. The main store here is Parkson, and on the upper floors there is a fancy multiplex cinema. Gurney Plaza has 380 expensive stores located on nine floors. There are many boutiques of famous international brands with high prices, so even the middle class cannot afford to shop here all the time. I bought some wonderful, delicious ham at the grocery store. Happy with the purchase.))

Parkson Grand is a high end department store occupying one corner of the biggest mall in Penang. Marks &Spencer has a smaller shop here too on the ground floor where main tenants are big international luxury brands. The upper levels hold all mobile phone companies and several smaller local businesses, mainly fashion. The food market in the basement is excellent and is surrounded by restaurants and take aways for all tastes.

Gurney Plaza is like a 20-minute walk from my apartment so I decided to come and find something to eat for dinner. There’s a lot of choices but It’s hard to navigate around the mall. The thing that I like is that the restaurant bars outside are still open from the outside entrance where I went to The Barn Wine Bar.

Located between old Georgetown and Batu Feringhi resort area Gurney has managed to stay the top mall in Penang. Asians are now enthusiastic consumers of Western cosmetics which fill the ground floor combined with other world brands and jewellery stores. Further up are less expensive shops and restaurants serving food from all over the globe. The supermarket downstairs has been upgraded lately. There used to be a shallow bay of water in front of the mall, now it has been dried up to build yet more highrises.

Pretty well anything you need can be found here and as importantly there are so many food options. The really big food court gets very busy during lunch time and even with so many tables it can get full! I can't think of a cuisine that is not here. Maybe some African?
Besides the food there's everything else you can imagine. Its clean, modern and has AC!

Hi Angeline, original cakes are sold by a small but wonderful bakery on the lower ground floor. This can be found next to the Supermarket Cols Storage. The cake is fantastic although we only had the original cake they also sold a chocolate version the looked incredibly yummy! Hope this helps.

Hi "Lily t": Although I am not sure if wheel chairs are provided at this Mall.. I can say that it is not usual to find "freely available wheelchairs in Malls. But the best information can be accessed by contacting the mall directly. {as I have never had to request a wheelchair, I have no direct experience].
I hope that this has been at least somewhat useful....

Hi "Graceroom": The whole 22 acres/900,000+ square feet of shops, restaurants, entertainment, supermarket, department store is "readily accessible" for people in wheel chairs---- and, everything is air-conditioned!!
Enjoy your visit...
I hope that this was helpful [PS I do not work there nor own any shares... but do appreciate the quality of the services on offer to all]!!
