Residence of Dr Sun Yat Sen, first president after last emperor. If you are interested in Chinese History a must see. Sun Yat Sen accepted by the Chinese as well as the Taiwanese as the foundling father of modern China. Visited in July - very hot - but luckily museum is air-conditioned. After visit just walk across the street and... More

We'd just spent some time in the Chinese Museum on a trip to Melbourne before visiting Georgetown so it was very interesting to get closer to modern Chinese history in this little house in Malaysia.

This place occupies the first floor of the shophouse and the museum spans over 3 rooms on the first floor. The original furniture and ambiance have been preserved as much as possible to their original state. If one wants to see the typical layout of a house in the old days, this is the place to visit. This was the... More

Worth a stop by to find out more about Sun Yat Sen. Interesting place to visit for a change. We had a good chat to understand the architecture and history of the house itself with the caretaker as well.

This tiny museum has a small but very detailed account of Sun Yat Sen's life and brief sojourn in Georgetown. The building itself is the real star, as it retains many original features and furniture, including the kitchen and open day well. The modest entry price of 5 MYR's also provides a much welcomed drink ( I had green tea)... More

I remembered visiting this museum and noticing that one has to ring for an appointment to visit this historical venue. Now it appears that it is open for viewing with an appointed guide. Minimal cost to pay for an interesting visit.

In end Mar, I had a couple of Taiwan visitors over. After dinner, I took them for a quick drive around the heritage part of George Town. They were especially excited to see the SYS Museum; they got out of the car to take photos & selfies (not something I expect middle aged men to do). They read the informative... More

A visit to the Sun Yat Sen Museum is a must do when visiting George Town. It's not really a museum as we expected just a preserved house where Dr. Sun Yat Sen stayed while in Penang. Love the Peranakan interiors, with the lovely tiles and the courtyard inside. Shown around the house are old style cooking implements and an... More
