QUIET AND PEACEFUL AND AWAY FROM IT ALL
A must visit to this tranquil quiet retreat. The walk about is serene and beautiful trees and flowers . Lots of interesting species of trees. Small water sources around property. Gentle Monkey families around . Keep your distance and just enjoy the video making. Do not feed them and stay away from the baby’s. Mommy’s don’t Like intrusion

    Peaceful little bit of paradise.
A lovely experience. We visited on a hot day but it was fine as it was lovely and shady. The walk around the gardens is easy, not too hilly, and with great pathways. There is so much to see from a wealth of Flora and fauna and many creatures from lizards, terrapins, butterflies, birds, and many monkies. Lots of macaques, and if you're lucky, you will see some gorgeous dusky leaf monkies quietly feeding. It's really worth a trip up. Two warnings, though, be careful with the macaques, they can be aggressive. Also, make sure you either have data on your phone or your return trip organised as the Waterfall cafe refuse to let you use their wifi, and if you need a grab, it's a problem. NB the Waterfall also charge ridiculous prices for cold drinks. Avoid if you can.

    Loved it!
Loved it even if it was a bit tired in parts. Monkeys were fun to watch- we spotted some babies playing at the bottom of the tree! Some amazing trees and plants to discover. Not very busy when we went late afternoon. Free to enter.

Wide range of flora and fauna - pretty gardens with a wild monkey population!
My wife and I visited on a cruise ship excursion and we had just under an hour here to enjoy the pretty surroundings. It's an easy walk and fairly flat. There are many interesting plants and trees to see, and our guide explained that the gardens were mainly known for its trees and plants, in contrast to botanical gardens elsewhere that focused on flowers. There are wild macaque monkeys here...just don't go too near or wave any bags around as they will try to grab the bag on the premise there might be food inside. We loved the fascinating cannon ball trees, the cannon balls are really odd plants that apparently smell rotten on the inside. We could have easily spent longer here but we were on a tight timetable. The gardens are located at Jalan Kebun Bunga and it is Malaysia’s only botanic gardens. There are many ferns and cactus houses too, including some rare species. The Botanic Gardens is open every day from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m and there is parking available.

It is a large garden with lots of big trees. We felt cool while we walked in the park in a hot mid morning! There were many monkeys playing on their own which was nice to look at. However, we were disappointed with the lily pond! There were few miserable lily plants amid over-crowded water hyacinth! Entrance to the park is free!

    Relaxing and peaceful
Despite visiting Penang several times previously, we had never explored the Botanic gardens which were created in an old quarry, which, when you’re walking around, seems hard to believe. At the entrance is a large car park and a cafe. Entrance is free. The gardens are magnificent with many superb rain forest trees and colourful shrubs. It’s a relatively easy walk and any inclines are not steep. Even on a hot day, there’s plenty of shade but there’s no need to rush! Look up as well as down. There are a number of specialist plant houses but these are not open every day so best to check online first. There are many monkeys around so be careful what you are carrying! They are always on the lookout for food and it is, in fact, illegal to feed them. They are entertaining to watch though. We spent a very interesting few hours here and thoroughly recommend a visit.

Entrance and car park are both free. If you want to have a walk or jog around this is the best place for you. Though there are only few plants inside the area, but you can still enjoy and have a walk and relax under a tree. There are also monkeys inside.

Well loved and frequented by the locals. Young and old come here to jog, walk, exercise and lots of elderly meet here regularly for their exercise and daily dose of catch up with one another. As for foreigners, nice if you like nature, enjoy a gentle jog around the park ( nothing challenging nor does it have an interesting path, unless you venture into trail 46 which is notorious for its semingly endless steps ), or have a fair knowledge of botanic facts. There is no guide in sight nor any good signboards with information/interesting facts of the trees and plants they have at the gardens. Not that I know of.
Plenty of open car park spaces, but are usually busy with locals heading there as early as 6am for exercise. Free entrance.

We came on a weekday, so traffic of joggers was much subdued. We enjoyed the greenery and streams.

We were last here perhaps 11 years ago and there was a slow train operating but this time round the train was no longer around.

The positive side of it was we walked further and in the process found little hidden gems that we overlooked previously like the lily pond in a secluded corner of the garden and the thematic gardens e.g. herb garden and Japanese garden.

Visitors can also hire 4WD jeeps from here as an alternative to the cramped funicular train.

If you enjoy some time outside and want to take an easy walk and feel like you in nature, this is the place to go. We strolled around for about two hours or so and had a lot of fun. Most areas are very well maintained but we did come across some areas that was closed or under maintenance, but was not a major issue. There was no entrance fees when we went in and we will highly recommend a visit.

This is an absolutely beautiful place to view the most gorgeous tropical landscapes and plants. I mean, jaw-dropping! I love seeing many form of wildlife as well. Yesterday, I saw lots of monkeys, an adorable family of tiny bats and a sweet, shy monitor lizard. The gift shop is very sweet—filled with handmade crafts made by volunteers. I bought a souvenir there fir my son when he visited and he loved it. You can also pick up a beverage and ice cream there. There’s a cafe outside the gates that’s typical of Penang food court selections. I haven’t been there yet, but know that it’s an option. I took a Grab car to get there and return to my hotel, and I didn’t have to wait for a car. This is a Penang must-see, even for a short visit, in my opinion. Remember not to approach the monkeys, feed them or make eye contact. It’s delightful to sit on a bench and watch their antics from a safe distance. They will walk alongside you, but remember that they are wild animals and you are a guest in their home. I sincerely hope you enjoy this treasure as I have. BTW, I recommend going early in the morning if you are not acclimated. Penang gets hot in the afternoon.

Although parts of this like orchidarium are closed which is disappointing the rest of the gardens are magnificent. Quiet, green, relaxing and altogether wonderful. But the bonus is the monkeys that cavort, play and dance within inches of your feet. They are entertaining and enchanting and we lost track of all time enjoying watching them whilst breathing the glorious fresh air.

A very nice place, lots of plants flowers and trees and we had a guide showing us around explaining things to us.
Sadly the orchid house had nothing in it but what I would describe as overgrown plants and weeds, certainly needs improvement.
The monkeys can be quite aggressive especially if you get between mum and babies. It's better watching them in a natural environment but do not feed them.
Worth a visit but could improve as it looked slightly neglected

Didn't know what to expect, based on mixed reviews (the most negative of which proved completely nonsensical). There is some real beauty to be found here, in a clear and easy and accessible way. Spending time with the monkeys eating the fruit from the trees was really lovely.

Brought our American friends here as they were interested in the flora and fauna of our island. Things never seem to change in this garden and it is so much nicer to see the Macaques (the small grey monkeys) have mellow down and are eating the wild flowers and seeds. Years ago tourists were feeding them and they were pretty aggressive.

The gardens are beautiful and so worth a visit. Use the Grabit app for a taxi...10rm from Tanjung Bungah. The no. 10 bus from Georgetown is very erratic and possibly not worth the saving of rm or the wait.
The gardens are free and the trails and various areas lovely. Black squirrels, monkeys and butterflies in good numbers. Good signposting and well-kept pathways...although you can hire a car to take you round. For me that’s missing the point of the gardens. Absolutely a must when in Penang. Good gift shop too. No WiFi so sort your ride home out before you go.
