Beautiful botanical garden that have been around for hundred of years. Everything is well kept and the jungle is lush and beautiful. Local come here to exercise. There are many types of plants to see. After a walk, have a tea or roti for breakfast waterfall cafe.

Although parts of this like orchidarium are closed which is disappointing the rest of the gardens are magnificent. Quiet, green, relaxing and altogether wonderful. But the bonus is the monkeys that cavort, play and dance within inches of your feet. They are entertaining and enchanting and we lost track of all time enjoying watching them whilst breathing the glorious fresh air.

This is an absolutely beautiful place to view the most gorgeous tropical landscapes and plants. I mean, jaw-dropping! I love seeing many form of wildlife as well. Yesterday, I saw lots of monkeys, an adorable family of tiny bats and a sweet, shy monitor lizard. The gift shop is very sweet—filled with handmade crafts made by volunteers. I bought a souvenir there fir my son when he visited and he loved it. You can also pick up a beverage and ice cream there. There’s a cafe outside the gates that’s typical of Penang food court selections. I haven’t been there yet, but know that it’s an option. I took a Grab car to get there and return to my hotel, and I didn’t have to wait for a car. This is a Penang must-see, even for a short visit, in my opinion. Remember not to approach the monkeys, feed them or make eye contact. It’s delightful to sit on a bench and watch their antics from a safe distance. They will walk alongside you, but remember that they are wild animals and you are a guest in their home. I sincerely hope you enjoy this treasure as I have. BTW, I recommend going early in the morning if you are not acclimated. Penang gets hot in the afternoon.

Interesting plants and folwers, great fern house. A very quiet place. Nice shop, extremly helpful and friendly staff ! Enough shady places to rest - but bring your own supplies, especially water !

If you enjoy some time outside and want to take an easy walk and feel like you in nature, this is the place to go. We strolled around for about two hours or so and had a lot of fun. Most areas are very well maintained but we did come across some areas that was closed or under maintenance, but was not a major issue. There was no entrance fees when we went in and we will highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful botanical gardens and scenery. Great for a day out and even better it’s all free. Me and my partner even managed spot a few dusky leaf monkeys ( which are becoming endangered) along with many long tailed macaques

This is another thing you absolutely must go see if in Penang. The Botanical Gardens is nothing like what you've seen before. First of all it's massive, and the animals roam totally free. The monkeys are usually friendly, but don't feed them and don't provoke them! If you're looking to feel in the jungle within the city, then this is your place. It's on the way to Penang Hill. I would recommend seeing this instead of Penang Hill if you had to chose.

We came on a weekday, so traffic of joggers was much subdued. We enjoyed the greenery and streams.
We were last here perhaps 11 years ago and there was a slow train operating but this time round the train was no longer around.
The positive side of it was we walked further and in the process found little hidden gems that we overlooked previously like the lily pond in a secluded corner of the garden and the thematic gardens e.g. herb garden and Japanese garden.
Visitors can also hire 4WD jeeps from here as an alternative to the cramped funicular train.

We were lucky enough to spot dusky leaf monkeys, one with the cutest golden baby. Don't miss the hike to the waterfall. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for holding onto ropes. Well marked trail and also well maintained.

Hi, is the stray dog in the back of the park still alive? He was in a horrible shape when we visit the botanic garden last year and we hope he is all well.
