Having a guide like Julia, who can bring a place to life with engaging storytelling and extensive knowledge, truly enhances the tour experience. The Blue Mansion is a stunning landmark with a rich history, and Julia's guidance allowed us to fully appreciate its beauty and significance. It's clear that Julia is passionate and enthusiastic about the history and culture of Penang, and it's likely that she spent a great deal of time seeking out and absorbing information about the area. Her expertise and enthusiasm made the tour not only informative but also enjoyable. We had a wonderful time, and we're grateful to Julia for her excellent guidance. Thanks so much!

A very historical and accurate account of an influential man of his time in Georgetown. The mansion is also a hotel so we are only allowed to see certain parts of it as the rest is private . To see the development of Georgetown through the eyes of the family was very interesting . Many artefacts to view .
Tip:Only 2 tours a.m and p.m . Would suggest morning is better , perhaps slightly cooler . Fairly accessible for walking . Use Grab if necessary

The groups far too big. I think 50 in our group. I couldn’t understand the guides English, difficult to understand. Would rather have had the audio instead and gone around quietly. Very disappointing woukdnt bring guests here again.

The place, amazing. The tour guide? Problematic. She specifically said if I wasn't happy to NOT write a review on Trip Advisor, but that made me know that I just had to do so. It is 2023, and the kind of class prejudice she displayed was really horrid. It's as ugly as racism or sexism. I know, it's rich guy's house, but the casual scorn for the people who worked for the rich man was so obvious, I couldn't believe that the British class system was still as alive and pernicious as it seems to be. (Yes, she was from Britain, she told us.) The attitude was snotty and superior, and tried to enlist the participants to mentally take on this self superiority. For one example among MANY, the way the tenants and squatters who occupied the building were discussed as basically disgusting, dirty, careless people: I felt ugly just standing there listening to it. 130 years after the American revolution, the British ruling class still needs to be reminded how ugly they sound?

Wonderful tour. Lots of history and detail woven in to the tour as you view the beautiful house. Worth a visit.

Though the mansion only opens limited areas for visitors, it's totally worth checking it out since it's so beautiful inside and there is so much history behind this gorgeous property!

Two English language tours are carried out daily at 11 and 14 o'clock for 25 rm. The Blue Mansion and information about it are also well visible from the street if you are in a hurry. As it is primarily a hotel viewing the interior is limited. This was the first renovated Chinese building around the time Georgetown was granted the Unesco World Heritage title.

You really need to take this 45 minute tour to fully appreciate the Blue Mansion as the guide describes so many things that you wouldn’t notice by simply walking around. It was informative, educational and at times amusing. Overall highly recommended, a “must see” on your visit to Penang

The interesting and amusing tour unfortunately limits itself to explaining photographs and diagrams and a few interior courtyards. Most of the house is reserved for private hotel guests.

The conducted tour was worth it. Informative and interesting. Would be better if it was longer!!! 😅
Without the guided tour, it would just be reading the printed literature and looking at the artefacts. Which does not give a wholesome picture of the origins of the blue mansion. So the guided tour is highly recommended!!!!

Can you visit Blue Mansion without a tourguide/already bought tickets?

We have a day in a Georgetown as part of a cruise. Can you arrive and do the 1 hour tour that day? Or do you have to book in advance?

Would be a good idea to book in advance since it would avoid waiting in line. You won't be disappointed since it is well worth a visit with an excellent guide. Or, as another person has said, you could always wander in for lunch or a drink at the bar without paying for the tour.

Is it possible to just pop in to the Hotel, without a guided tour, take some pics?
Hi there,
Besides our tour, we do welcome guests who are patronising our bar or our restaurant, Indigo. Our bar is open daily from 12 noon, and Indigo is open for lunch and dinner. Reservations can be made via our website.
We highly value the privacy of guests staying within our boutique hotel, thus there are areas restricted to guests who are on not staying with us.
Due to the high number of visitors who visit every day, our security does have to be cautious about entry in order to protect/preserve the heritage mansion, and the privacy of our hotel guests.
