Come Home to Historic Splendour

'ONE OF 10 GREATEST MANSIONS IN THE WORLD' LONELY PLANET 2011

A Grand Mansion conceived and constructed by a Grand Man; an eminent edifice which History calls Home; a peerless representation of the Paradigm Chinese Courtyard House – the Cheong Fatt Tze “Blue” Mansion has been perfectly poised for over a century on firm foundations of architectural, cultural and historic superlatives.

Essentially an ‘heirloom with rooms’, today, the Mansion readily bequeaths its charms to visitors who are able to indulge in Exclusive Heritage Homestays; **Guided Tours; and Tailored Functions on its premises. Reputedly the favourite home of the “Last Mandarin and First Capitalist of China”, the Mansion is undoubtedly the favourite home of George Town.

The guide was very informative and it was interesting but only an apparent small part was open to public as the remainder seemed to be a hotel!

Beyond pleased with the decision to take the tour of the mansion. Our tour guide was wonderful and we learned a great deal about Cheong Fatt Tze, the mansion itself, as well as characteristics of Chinese feng shui. I can only highly recommend a visit and tour of this place.

When I first came here, I really enjoyed the tour. Now, there's nothing to really see as the rooms have been converted into a B&B and a restaurant. You only see the first floor. More time is spent listening to the guide talk about this history than talking about the house. At the 2nd floor, you get to see boards... More

The mansion is beautiful and well maintained. We followed the guided tour, and the tour guide was very good. Her explanations were interesting and detailed, from history to Chinese fung shui. Though we could only see a few places in the mansion, there were also some artifacts to be seen. Worth a visit.

Went there but didn't get the opportunity to enter as I missed the schedule for group visits as they don't allow visitors to walk in at anytime freely. They apparently have only 3 slots daily and you must purchase the ticket 15-30 min before the scheduled group tour.

Interesting but tour based. You cannot linger on your own in the mansion. No photography is allowed. Good place to see the culture. They offer accommodation as well which can be found in their website

This places is the definition of calm and peace in the bustling city of Penang. The outside is impressive and amazing, and the lobby very ornate. The breakfasting courtyard is beautiful, and the side courtyards are very Zen, with pools, comfortable seats, and cool breezes. You can do a complimentary 50 minute tour of the mansion with one of the... More

the guides at this place simply refused entry if you visit at their non-allocated tour times. they are also quite unfriendly. as a result, we skipped this place since there are so many other similar and equally (if not even grander) mansions to visit.

Went there by chance and took the guided tour in English - the tour guide was just great! Knowledgeable, funny and very informative. Definitely the highlight of the visit - there isn't much to see o if you go on your own (not even sure if it's possible) without anyone explaining the history of the house and Chinese traditions involved... amazing to see this well preserved family home of the Chan family of whom there were a great number. all the rooms are authentic and furnished in the manor of a well off, prosperous family, including their own temple. Beautiful furniture
