A beautiful historical house that should be on your destination list when you are in Georgetown, Penang. The price is worth the experience. The ticket can be purchased online or on the spot, however, please note that they only have scheduled tours at 11 am and 2 pm. The guide explained everything in a very detailed yet entertaining way, so you feel like you can absorb the story easily.

It's a beautiful house. The narrator will explain it in detail.
But there are docents only at eleven o'clock and two o'clock in the afternoon.Besides, there are too few places to visit, because the rear areas have been changed into hotels.

Went for dinner at the restaurant - ambience is very nice. Food was fine dining. The staff at the hotel entrance very friendly and knows the history well. Can see the passion in his actions

Classic building and cultural architecture. But the tour could have been done much better. Poor sound quality. Even with SOP, could place microphone inside the mask for better quality. Tour starts promptly on time, so be sure to arrive a few minutes early.

The hotel structure itself did not stand out much for me but, the color of it, which is indigo is what makes it unique though I think in Penang colorful establishments is a thing. It is definitely worth checking out esp. if you go there during Monsoon season.
What is impressive is the tour because of the guide. The Chinese lady guide (i think Lorenz is the name) is very knowledgeable and speak good English and the way she is narrating is very passionate. She will get your attention. I did focus though I am not really someone into history and art. Kudos to her!

First impression is always the last and my yesterday's experience is not terrible but simply horrifying.

Total lack of communication between the receptionists as: when we phoned the morning to ask if possible to visit a room for a potential stay next month, it is confirmed that possible, after a drive of 90 minutes, we are said by the afternoon receptionist that it is not possible due to the covid situation.
Terribly unfriendly, unprofessional and total lack of understanding attitude of this afternoon reception who simply ignored us when I mentioned to her this lack of communication, she simply walked away in the back office, leaving us both of us in the lobby until few minutes later a local gentleman gave the key of a room to a local management trainee seems completely lost and not able to understand in English if there is an internet connection...or to switch on the lights in the room when we did asked her...

To my personal opinion, room showed is dark, no possibility to open any wood shutter as no privacy, lack of something which we may call personalisation in the room.
Lack of basic maintenance in the public areas but also guest room areas and particularly to the pool and its deck.

If the Blue Mansion is representing the culture, the image of the beautiful island of Penang and its people, it is from my point again definitely not at all.
For 500 RM per night with complimentary breakfast as it has been offered to me, there are plenty and many much more boutique, beautiful and particularly much more courteous and professional heritage places to stay on the island with a truly Asia and Penangite touch...

Thanks but NO thanks...

PS:
For some unknown reasons, Trip Advisor does not allows me to add some pics which are the disposal of any interested...

A charming house with so many stories behind it. Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the place. If you're planning to visit, please manage your time properly and arrive on time for the tour. You can take more pictures and walk around the house (except the hotel) after the tour ended btw!

This place is not a museum, is a house with inspiring history, it has nice decorations that represent mystical, cultural, and economic concepts and includes a hotel and restaurant that are worth visiting.
Do not forget to tip the Tour guide!!!

Fantastic experience in Cheong Fatt Tze! The guided tour was educational, fun and memorable. Special shout out to Rou Han who was friendly and helpful, Sally our tour guide who was passionate and courteous in delivering the unique story of Cheong Fatt Tze. I love how Sally has incorporated some “treasure hunt” activities and “guessing games” to throughout the trip. I’m so proud of the way she delivers the history and stories about the Mansion. In addition, the uncle at security booth was really dedicated and friendly , thank you uncle! Will definitely visit Cheong Fatt Tze again. Thank you team, Good Job for in conserving the heritage!
