Doesn't look anything special from the outside, the masonry is crumbling a bit and the grounds look a bit unkempt.

The tour by a member was fascinating--telling the history, showing the bomb damage from the December 1941 Japanese aerial attack. Very informative and interesting.

This is one of the must visit places while in Penang. Not only is it pretty well maintained and is a pleasant sight in itself but also tells you the colonial history of the place.

On my walks through the beautiful old center of colonial George Town, coming from Fort Cornwallis and the Esplanade, I came upon this white church in a mixture of styles, and with a neoclassical doric portico in front. It was not possible to go inside, when I was there, but I could have a look at the building from the outside.

Surrounding the church are palm trees and almost in front of the entrance a round pavilion, dedicated to the founder of George Town, Captain Francis Light. The church from 1817 is considered to be the oldest Anglican ecclesiastical building in South East Asia. It is subordinate though to the Anglican St.Mary's Cathedral in Kuala Lumpur from 1887, seat of the bishop since 1970.

This was nice to see as part of a walking tour of the various temples, and reflective of the diversity of cultures here. Good to see.

The most oldest church in Penang Island. St. George's Church is a 19th-century Anglican church. The church is built with a combination of Neo-Classical, Georgian and English Palladian architecture styles. Wedding photography is not allowed within the church area without permission.

Sadly didn't get to see inside as there were signs up saying closed due to coronovirus. Given that it was a Sunday during church time this seemed a somewhat unusual step. At that time (9th Feb) we did not encounter any other sights closed for this reason.
