Great collection of antiques and some paintings in a mansion. For the entrance fee they charged (RM 30 per person for adult), I expected we were guided by an experienced docent but unfortunately the young girl who guided us was inexperienced and merely memorizing the few lines for selected exhibits. Her knowdledge on history was limited. I believe this visit will be more memorable if the guide is competent.

My wife, my one year old daughter and I have just visited this museum. My wife is from Penang and I wished to learn something about the past. It was approximately £6 per adult. We were given a guided tour by a friendly knowledgeable guide for about 30 minutes. The house is full of antiques bought by the owner, European items that were originally bought by Chinese merchants. It was very interesting and you get a feel for Penang's colonial past but my wife wonders if it shouldn't be called 'Penang Antique Museum' instead. The wish I have is that we be allowed to wander the museum by ourselves but our guide says this isn't possible. This is a shame as in a museum you need time to peruse at your own pace.

An amazing collection put together by one woman in a lovely old colonial home. I especially loved items personal to her when she lived in the home.

For those who like history and raw historical story. Lots of curious historical objects and artefacts to look at and be awed.

When we arrived in the car park, we almost gave up the idea of paying RM30 per pax. The initial feeling was of an untidy, run-down establishment, but stick with it as this is far from the truth.

On arrival at the cash desk, a pleasant gentleman welcomed us, but made it cleat there were no discounts for seniors. That annoyed me, but the owner, a very nice lad came out of the office and agreed to a discount for me. I am 80+.

The doors were opened and we entered an amazing collection of items used by the Chinese Towkays during the British Colonial period. The richer they were, the more they emulated the British by collecting and using European antiques. There is absolutely everything here.

The guide was very happy to tell us the story of every major item and he made the tour most enjoyable.

After the tour, the owner of all the antiques, Jasmine Tan, sat and chatted with us. She is very knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk with.

So, bite the bullet, pay the RM30. You will enjoy the experience.

Arrived mid morning and enjoyed a good tour lasting nearly an hour. Guide was very well informed and really enthusiastic about this colonial home packed with amazing collection of artefacts from the era. R30 per head seemed reasonable for the personalised experience.

What a fascinating place this was - a veritable treasure trove of unusual and amazing artefacts from all over the world. Thanks to the owners for collecting it and sharing it and to wonderful guide Alvin who really brought the objects to life.
