I found the Colonial Penang Museum to be a fascinating insight into the history of Penang. In particular the wealthy and/or business families. The guide I had was a lovely person who had great knowledge of the subject. Recommend this museum.

Set in a gorgeous mansion and lavish romantic garden, this museum showcases another side of Penang's history told from personal artifacts of the owner. Highly recommended!

Without a guide this would just seem like a jumbled house full of bric a brac. The guide absolutely changes this into a really good tour, my guide was unbelievably enthused in a most contagious way.
