Kiansom Waterfall is a favourite picnic spot for the local. The water that flows down from Mt Kinabalu is so refreshing and clean. It's not a big waterfall area but safety must be observe at all times and watch your steps because the stones area here are quite slippery. Overall its a great place to dip in the water and photo taking.

We got a bus from KK to Inanam, (number 4A) from outside the Shagri La Hotel for RM 1.50. The bus was awesome, with music and brilliant vibes.
From Inanam we got a minivan to the waterfall itself for RM 4 per person.
To enter the waterfall was RM 1.50 and was very worthwhile, we swam in many pools and explored the several waterfalls, the water was chilled and refreshing and there were quite afew local people about. Some of us even jumped into the pools along with some local boys.
The experience was really authentic because it seemed like a very local picnic destination. We got caught in some rain but because we were already swimming it didn't matter and there was a small alcove to keep bags dry.
There were stalls outside with fresh fruit and snacks, which we bought waiting for the minivan to return. The minivan returned to pick us up at the time we asked, and the trip back to KK was very smooth.
An overall pleasant day out :)
Would recommend to anyone.

Actually, this place is hard to find because DBKK did not build any sign board as a guide for you to go to the waterfall. You need to rely on local guide or a friend which is already been there.
Going to Kiansom takes 15-30 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu city center, depending on traffic and weather condition. The best time to go there is around 9AM or 2PM in working days (Monday to Friday) because there will be not so many people there. Kiansom Waterfall will be highly crowded during Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
Lucky for me, I arrive at Kionsom with my Facebook friend who have been there hundreds of time because he live at Inanam. Kiansom Waterfall is close to Mari Mari Cultural Village but this waterfall has not been advertised widely.
Going to Kiansom is my best experience ever! I enjoyed my time in Kiansom - diving, bathing, lying idly in the water while closing my eyes, trying to calm my mind. I did the abseiling and it was also my best experience.
I didn't know this place but it shows up in my Trip Advisor listing so I decided to go there and give it a try while i'm still at Kota Kinabalu. I'm so happy being there.
If you are looking for waterfall day trip at Kota Kinabalu, I highly recommend this place. Actually, Kiansom is the only popular waterfall in Kota Kinabalu. Please be careful while walking in Kiansom Waterfall. The stones is very, very, slippery especially when wet.
Kiansom Waterfall entry fee is just 1.50 Malaysian Ringgit per person. There is several small stall in the entrance built by local people. They sell mineral water bottle, canned drinks, ABC (air batu campur), light food, snacks and some local menu that you can 'tapau'.

An entrance fee of RM1.50 is charged. The place is not big. From what I saw, the was a big waterfall followed by smaller waterfalls down stream. There is not much space for more than twenty people around the waterfall area. There are changing rooms within the area and also some local stalls selling snacks. I would like to return and hike explore this place a bit more as I found out that there is a trail that leads to the top of the waterfall.

Kiansom waterfall is about 30-45 minutes' drive from Kota KInabalu. Entrance fee is RM1 (maybe more now). We get access to toilet and a (filthy) resting place. Waterfall is beautiful but unfortunately thoughtless people have dumped rubbish in it and the "management" didn't make much effort to keep the place clean.

Found this spot by accident while exploring the Inanam area at the outskirts of Kota Kinabalu. Turning right along the Tuaran Road at the roundabout into the Kiansom Road, I drove on until the road ended at a parking lot. Only then I realised that it was the site of a waterfall. The waterfall is not visible from the parking lot where there are some stalls selling tidbits and drinks. After paying the entrance fee of RM1.50, I went down along the narrow concrete paths to the waterfall where some youngsters were having a good time swimming in the pools. Not a very big area but good enough for a dip on the hot afternoon. Even being there is enjoyable enough because the cool surrounding under the trees and the sound of the fast flowing water is music to the ears. Extra care must be taken while walking along the paths especially when it is wet. The area is monitored via closed circuit television as the notice indicated and a camera hung up among the trees although I did not enquire it's real purpose. Hopefully it serves its purpose. The facilities should be maintained in good conditions at all time. There is no sign board anywhere either at the road junction or along the way to indicate the existence of the waterfall. The local authority ought to promote this waterfall as a tourist attraction to provide more business opportunities to the local residents living nearby by running stalls selling local crafts and food. The Mari Mari Cultural Village which is privately owned and operated is located just a short distance from the waterfall has become a very popular attraction to foreign tourists as it is promoted by the tourist agencies. The waterfall provides a good alternative to outdoor adventurers beside the beaches which are easily available here. For a half-hour drive and cheap entrance fee, it is a worthwhile trip to make for an afternoon swim in the cool mountain stream, a rare opportunity indeed.

My friends and I went to Kiansom in the afternoon. We drove to get there so not sure how the public transport would work but try asking the sabah tourism board. We went on a week day hence we had the waterfalls to ourselves from 2pm to 4 pm. There are many pools in Kiansom waterfalls. The most magnificent view needs some hiking up so we didnt go there. We chose a pool accessible by some built stairs. We found the waterfalls to be very clean. congratulations to the management! we swam and frolicked. There were many sucker fish that sucked our feet. that was fun. The water was not too deep in our pool. We had a good time. At 4.30pm a group of local boys came to use the pool so we left at that point. The toilet and changing room could use more maintainence but perhaps as the fee is only rm 1 there is no one who can clean it.
