As advertised, Bike Borneo are the experts when it comes to cycling Sabah. The team worked closely with me to create a challenging route that included single-track, gravel and tarmac. We climbing was extensive (by design), but was rewarded by wild descents and amazing views of Mount Kinabalu. Off the bike, the BB crew went to great pains to accommodate my vegetarian diet and to explain in great details the various cultures of Sabah and the particular communities in which we stayed overnight. The memories of this trip will not soon fade away.

Cycling around the outskirts of KK is definitely a great way to explore the hidden sides of Sabah. Our cycling guide Alex (cool guy!) brought us around, passing through small villages, bridges and hills. Not only is the views interesting, Alex also shared about the culture and history of the region, making the trip even more enjoyable. Christian who handled the arrangments and operated the support vehicle during the trip was also very friendly and attentive. Would certainly recommend for my friends to join in the future.

We did the Tuaran Day Ride on our recent honeymoon to Borneo and it was amazing!!! Our guide was Christian and he was so much fun to get to chat with on the drive from KK and to bike around with, and he did an incredible job tailoring the ride to our preferences and asking us about what kind of terrain we liked riding on the best, how far we wanted to go, when we wanted breaks, etc. He was also extremely responsive ahead of time via WhatsApp, both answering our questions before we booked and coordinating logistics the day of.
The ride itself was absolutely gorgeous and it was so much fun and so interesting to get to ride through and learn more about the local villages. We also got to stop for a delicious lunch and in addition to the delicious noodle dish mentioned in several reviews, we also had some really yummy drinks (a fresh watermelon juice and a delicious local iced milk tea with a really unique flavor). Everything ran seamlessly and the bikes were great and comfortable. Christian is also just a really cool, chill, kind, and warm person. Signing up for the ride was an amazing decision and we’re thrilled that we made it!!! You should too!

We did the planning for this 3D2N Adventure Tour, about 9 months ahead, with Bike Borneo. Must says that Christian has been very patience and responsive to our emails & queries throughout this long duration.
Anyway, just finished this awesome tour of a cool combination of Non-Technical Gravel/Tarmac/Clay Tracks Mountain Biking cum Trekking through the forest, the paddy fields and a few rural villages too.
On Day 1, we were promptly picked up from our hotel and drove to Bike Borneo "Base-Camp" to get our Hardtail mountain bikes. Thereafter, we drove for another 1-1/2 hours to our starting point. Our Adventure Tour begun with a bit of hilly terrain on gravel tracks to test-out our selected MTB and our Handling Skills. The routes for the following 2 days were then tailored based on the Ride Leader's assessment of our ride experience and handling skills. The trekking route through the natural forest and the farm fields were awesome although we were caught in the rain, blessings from the heavens above.
The home-stay and the beach-stay were great with amazing views of rivers, mountains and the seas too in their peaceful beauty. We get to taste delicious local foods along the way and got to know about the local people's culture as well as their traditions through our interaction with them, reinforced with explanations and thoughts from our knowledgeable Tour & Rider Leader Christian. He was well-informed, very accommodating and a great companion for the 3 days of riding that we felt like old friends for a long time already. Lastly, but not the least, our support 4x4 truck driver "Captain" Jason, a cautious and tentative driver was always close by to ensure that we are sufficiently hydrated and fed with drinks and snacks.
This was my first adventure tour visit to Sabah and will certainly come back again. In fact, we are already thinking about a 10-14 Days Round Sabah Riding Tour for 2025 with Christian/Bike Borneo. We will highly recommend Bike Borneo and Team to anyone looking for an enjoyable adventure tour trip in Sabah!

We did the 2D1N mini adventure tour. Everything was perfect and very well organized.
Christian is a super nice guy and very professional. He has great customer service skills and knows how to take care of clients. Before the trip he was super responsive and gave us all the info we needed. The pickup was on time and everything was ready when we arrived. The bikes are all in great condition and they drove us around in a pickup truck which was quite nice and allowed us to rest and also enjoy the scenery between rides. We asked for challenging rides and oh boy was it challenging! It was a tough but great workout for sure. We had many food breaks which allowed us to try new things and we were always full. The homestay was in an amazing location, with a pool and great views of Mount Kinabalu. On top of this, Christian was very entertaining, with lots of stories to share about his family and the history of Borneo. Would 100% recommend

Christian from Bike Borneo picked my wife and I from our homestay at the appointed time and reached his place an hour later. Instead of starting off immediately on our ride, we were pleasantly surprised that he brought us to a nearby local market to browse through the local vegetable market.
After that, we went to pick up our bicycles where we met Flow, an ex-national bicycle champ who acted as our sweeper. We then headed off on our tour of the countryside. All along the first 5 km, Christian gave us an insightful commentary of the local history. We stopped at our first cafe where we had soothing drinks and cakes. Off we went after 30mins and our second top was at a local farm where we had fresh coconuts, fresh lime with honey. We were offered local produced wine which we politely declined. Our final stop was at a temple where we had lunch. Surprisingly there were meat choices too! It was a pleasant place to relax in before we ended the tour.
We enjoyed ourselves as it was an unhurried pace with both riders providing us safety.
Both Christian and Flow are seasoned professionals and we highly recommend Bike Borneo to people looking for customized tours.

We had a lively time riding around Tuaran area visiting local villages and admiring the vistas. Hot and sweaty but satisfying. Our guide Christian was very accomodating and flexible. Overall, we highly recommend for those who want to have an active morning with friends.

We did the Tuaran day ride. this is our 2nd time with Bike Borneo having done the 2D1N mini adventure a while back. Christian is great tailoring the route to your ability or just how you feel that day. It's a great way to spend a day in Kota Kinabalu seeing how the locals live with Mt Kinabalu overlooking the ride.
Would highly recommend for those who want an adventure and have a day to spare in Kota Kinabalu. For those with more time would also recommend the 2D1N tour although it is rather challenging for occasional cyclists like us.

Fantastic biking experience in the foothills of Kinabalu Park. Our route was extended slightly at 25km overall. Our guide Christian had great knowledge of the local area and really brought the culture to life with stories of his family, and his grandfather in particular.
Booking and pick up/drop off was really easy. You travel to the location where the bikes are stored. The route was a good mix of terrain and mostly off road/quiet lanes. Sone fun too walking over suspension bridges! There is a support vehicle that meets at rest stops with cold drinks.
Lunch is provided in a restaurant which is part of an impressive temple complex.
Overall this is a really well run tour. Lots of thought has gone into it and it shows. If you travel to Kota Kinabalu and like biking this tour is a must do! 5 stars, 100%
Thank you Christian and Flo!

What a fantastic experience
Christian is a true professional and has a wealth of knowledge on the history of Borneo
Bikes and equipment in excellent condition
Christian and Flo could not do enough for us, and I really enjoyed our conversations
The scenery on this tour was the real Sabah. We travelled through local villages and farming areas.
The scenery was absolutely beautiful and was great to also visit the local market before our ride.
This tour is a Must when visiting K.K. and would recommend this company to anyone

Hello there,
We are family of three and all of us are not familiar with mountain biking.
Would this be okay? Especially for 10 y.o girl?
We are visiting KK over New Years.

What Chris said. The ride is non-technical and any parts you're unsure of or that are a bit steep can be walked. Would be a great family outing.

Hi, is the Kiulu Valley Ride and Raft tour suitable for beginners? Are there steep hills?

Hi Lisa,
Greetings from Bike Borneo!
Yes, the Kiulu Valley Ride and Raft tour is suitable for beginners and at the same time, it can adjust according to your ability ( For mountain biking).
Our mountain bike guides are all well trained and equip with basic first aid kit and attend emergency first aid training from time to time. There will also be a support vehicle team, should problem occure, and cold drinks are available along the ride with our support vehicle.
There are a few steep hills but not that hard. We would not push our client to their limit during the ride. Plenty of stops under the shades with amazing stories to share about is the best part of learning the culture and history here in Sabah.
The raft is also suitable for those who never experience white water rafting before, hence there is a raft guide who will monitor everyone during the activity. Lunch is superb, providing all the energy you needed for the whole day adventure!
If you need more details, please email us , and we will reply to you as soon as possible :)
Hope the above helps.
Cheers.

Hi,
I'm reading your reviews with interest, but I'm wondering if there's anything in the area for more experienced riders? Perhaps some nice technical descents or steep singletrack. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Written 7 February 2017
Hi Chris,
All of our rides are technical, we do have a single track due to the silk and gravel road are shared between the villagers and the townspeople. Our most famous tour which is Tuaran Day Ride it consist of uphill and downhill road, which we can tweak to make it much more challenging. if you'd like to try it out, you can go to our website click on tuaran day ride :D.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Lannie J

Are the day bike tours from Kina Kabalu ok for fit senior aged people 60+
Written 6 September 2016
Hi Lynn - I'm in that demographic & had no problem. So parts required a good level of fitness but nothing seriously challenging & our guide was terrific with the slower people in our group.
