Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the mosque was closed not only for visitors but also for Friday prayers. However, you can still take beautiful pictures from the roadside....without the crowds...

11 March and tourists are banned from going anywhere near the mosque, due to coronavirus restrictions. The guard even told me I couldn’t stand on the road next to it. Apparently the central reservation is fine to take a picture from but that’s it. A real shame as it looks beautiful. Hopefully they’ll open it soon. Just note they haven’t updated the website so it still appears it’s open.

The mosque on the water, quite beautiful but forbidden to enter or short stay, you can only see it when you pass by on bus.

When we went we were told we could not go on the grounds and were asked to stand on the other side of the road to take pictures. I am not sure if this is due to the Covid-19 scare or the fact we are foreigners. Very nice mosque that is worth seeing if you are in the area and would have loved to get closer.

I knew the mosque is closed but they didnt even let you walk around it. you were not allowed even to be on the same side of the road that the mosque is on. thats just nonsense. and locals can come and go, but tourists not welcome even near.

Staff on road outside made us park some distance away as we were tourists. Wouldn't even let us take photos from the footpath. They were friendly enough but quite firm. Said it was because of the coronavirus scare.

Also called the floating mosque. But not literally tho. Its a good spot to stop for photos but thats about it. With a fee you can rent the clothes at the registration counter and go into the mosque to take picture.

We were so excited to visit this popular Kota Kinabalu City Mosque or also called Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu. Unfortunately when we arrived there, they showed us a big signage stating that the mosque is no longer open for tourists. We asked the locals why it was closed, and they said due to the Corona Virus. They really take good care of their people here in KKCity.
We were only allowed to stay across the street where there's basically nothing but landscapes.
Behold, it didn't stop us for being creative. We needed to take at least some pictures and had some fun!

This mosque used to be a good spot for photo-shooting but we still prefer the stopover at the UMS Mosque that provides us uniqueness and calmness of its color.

This is a good looking mosque and you can take photos from afar or you can pay a minimal amount and get closer to get better photos which is what we did and are glad that we were able as the mosque itself was closed due to a function.
Well worth a look if in the area.

Is it true that tourists who are not registered in an accredited tour group under MoTac wont be allowed to visit inside the mosque?

No it isn't true, as posted by another guest, we paid 3 euros to enter and had a headcover and long garment to wear, which was then put into a laundry basket when finished with. We were two women alone and the lady inside welcoming people asked if we had any questions. Very friendly indeed. Mosque is modern, so not so interesting architecturally inside, but a priviledge to be allowed in at all, outside is stunning.
Does the mosque still open at night?

It's open throughout the day. The prayers time are roughly as follows:
1210hrs - 1300hrs
1530hrs - 1630hrs
1820hrs - 1900hrs
But, you'll still be able to take pictures from outside.

Hallo Hans!

Will foreigners be able to enter the mosque during Ramadan outside of prayer times?

Cannot enter during prayer session. Minimalist inside as per Islamic framework. Much nicer from outside to catch the mosque in different lighting conditions.

What time is jumuah salaah currently and are there ladies facilities for Jumuah?
There's space allocated for ladies 😊 for the Solah time, it's 12 plus.
