Don't waste your time (and money) going to the nearby islands at TAR marine park. Lousy snorkelling and we got badly stung by jelly fish. Nothing much to do on the islands...they're overcrowded with tourists from you know where. Food is atrocious in quality and pricing. If you have time go out to the more distant islands. TAR marine is... More

To have such a marvelous collection of reefs and marine life, not to mention rainforest trails, so close to the city is a dream come true. Easily accessible via speedboat taken from Jesselton Point (RM20-30), you can simply go for casual snorkeling trips all around, or solo hikes on Gaya Island (as its the largest and hosts the most wildlife... Beautiful tropical islands, much wildlife including the hornbill, water monitor lizard, wild boar, turtles, mangroves, South China Sea teeming with aquatic life. I would recommend visiting. The guides are very knowledgable and happy to talk to you all day long.

This marine park is a definite, absolute must for any traveller staying to KK for a while, I would suggest to skip staying in KK and just stay on the islands. It's superb

The islands of this park are located near to the city of Kota Kinabalu. You can get there from the jetty called 'Jesselton Point' which is very crowded from 8.30am onwards (on weekends even worse!). Therefore make sure you are an early bird (around 8am) in order to spare some stress. The tickets for activities and transport must be purchased... More

I did three dives here around Gaya Island. The guys from the diving shop made it a good experience. Good refreshment of techniques (at no extra cost). But there is just not that much to see here. I'm afraid mass tourism in the high season is ruining this place. Visites Gaya the day after but again here: not that much... More

The first thing a tourist would be suggested to visit is the TAR Marine Park. the are a few islands to choose from which is great but you are restricted to the agreed schedule and can't promptly change your plans. When deciding on which company to go with, always negotiate the price! I prefer to bring my own food (some... More

We visited 3 of the islands in as many days and though the beaches were lovely they were spoilt by the large amount of rubbish on the sand and in the water- one of them, I believe it was Sapi had sewage pumping into the sea close to the main swimming area. Getting to the islands is a bit of... More
