Bit of a disappointment actually since it is very small with not much information or artifacts. Even my 7 year old daughter said, "is that it? i thought i will find information and stuffs of the queen ..."

Since we had visited Fort Margherita the other day, we also decided to check this out. If I recall correctly, there was a sort of discount for the entrance ticket because of our visit to the Brooke Gallery at the Fort.
From the name of the museum itself, you can already guess it is focused on the life and legacy of Margaret de Windt. The exhibit aims to provide insight into her life through the different paintings, literature, craft etc. housed and displayed here.
Btw, Magaret de Windt was the wife of the second Rajah Brooke. She became the queen of Sarawak at the age of 19.
if you are interested to know more about the Brookes and particularly this Queen, make sure to visit. The Brooke Gallery at Fort Margherita though has far more content all in all, so do not expect a very extensive exhibit.

Nothing in this visit cant be found on Google. There were a handful of artifacts, i expected to see more. It was definitely not worth the RM10 entrance fee.

Located at the Old Courthouse down near the Kuching Waterfront is this interesting and compact air-conditioned museum dedicated to Margaret, Ranee of Sarawak.
Born in France in 1849, she lived her childhood in England before venturing to Sarawak and becoming the wife (Ranee) of the White Rajah of Sarawak. The exhibition is comprehensive and concise with a good selection of information, photographs and artifacts detailing Margaret's life and experiences in Sarawak, the whole exhibition was engaging. The gift store had an interesting number of good quality souvenirs to purchase: books, jewelery, coffee and more.

There are some of Ranee Margaret of Sarawak's clothing and writings on display along with many photographs of her with local women who she taught to read and write when tribes women didn't do that sort of thing. Ranee Margaret was a very impressive lady of her time. The history behind this lady is very forward thinking for the time, she immersed herself in the culture 100%. her husband must have been very proud of her. A lovely little museum where you don't get overwhelmed with information but everything is presented well. Well done.

Dear Susan M,
Thank you again for taking the time to submit your feedback and sharing your experience on your recent visit to our other offering, the Ranee Museum at Old Court House. We are glad that you had enjoyed going through the exhibition as well.
The focus have always been on the male members of the of the Brooke Family and we felt that there is a need to highlight the matriarch of the family as well. We hope that this would be achieved through the exhibition.
We look forward to welcome you again at any of our Museums. We would want to thank you again for your visit, as well as your review.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Adams

This waterfront museum is worth visiting. The Ranee was a remarkable woman who learned Malay and befriended the Malay nobility ladies. She regularly had them over to the Rajahās mansion at a time when this was not done. She taught these ladies how to read and write in Malay to reduce their opposition to education.
She was dearly beloved by the locals and did much to aid her husbandās rule.
Her story is well presented and explained.

I had never of Ranee before, having only heard of the White Rajahs but this was the place where I found out a lot about a very impressive lady. Imagine seeing your first three children die of Cholera in a time when it took months to travel home with no family and then return! Lots of pictures, lots of information about a time that will never return. It was quiet when we went, which I thought was a shame as this lady should be more well known as a heroine of the times. If you like History and/or want to get more involved in the History of Sarawak, I would recommend.

Until we visited Kuching we knew nothing of the Brooke families influence on the area. This exhibition located at the old Court House gave us an in site into the wife of the second White Raja and her personal contribution to the local area. A well laid out exhibition.
