Totally worth it, beautiful stunning views at night and nice breeze.
There is a light show 3 times at 8.30 9.30 and 10.30 pm so don’t miss that.

We came for Orangutans and were totally disappointed with Semenggog but not by Kuching which is interesting and so pretty. The waterfront is lit up by colour changing fountains and the bridge at night. It is relaxing and very clean even though there are stalls alongside. Locals and tourists were just milling around and enjoying the place day and night.

Best trip to kuching, Sarawak we had. Sarawak has loads of interesting places to visit and experience true local culture. An ideal number of days should be 5 days just to cover near by kuching area 100km radius...

Well worth a visit - at both nightime and in the day.

Feels very safe, no pressure re boat trips or restaurants.

Free light show at 8:30 and 9:30 nightly.

Lots of photo opportunities

Shame about some of the rubbish in the river but they do try to clean it up.

worth a visit.

We visited Kuching from a cruise. We caught the cruise shuttle into town, which took about 30 minutes, to wander. The walk along the Esplanade is very pleasant, with some interesting buildings. Very quiet when we were there. We enjoyed our walk along the river.

Local residents used to call directly "Waterfront Esplanade". The nearly a kilometre open promenade.
Food stalls with different choices and humble hawkers make the surroundings more pleasure.

We stayed at the Harbour View Hotel (see my review), just across the road from Kuching Esplanade, opposite the Tua Pek Kong Temple and the Chinese Museum.

The Esplanade offers beautiful views of the Sarawak River and is usually a bit cooler due to the large shade trees surrounded by well maintained lovely gardens and sculptures. It was Ramadan while we were there, so I think perhaps the riverside cafes were a little more quiet than usual.

At one end of the river walk is a circular restaurant and bar (near the Riverside Complex) which is a great place to view the river at night. Walk to the other end to the relief mural of the Mouse Deer and the Crocodile and the old Court House. Look across the river to Astana and Fort Margherita along the way. Take a ride in one of the water taxis to the other side or just sit for a while and watch the river life.

The Esplanade runs parallel to Jalan Main Bazaar, where you can find a bargain in one of the many souvenir shops....compare prices before you buy. Venture into some of the back streets to China Town and the Open Air Markets.

All in all, if you are visiting Kuching it’s a must place to visit and a nice location to book a nearby hotel.

If you are in Kuching, then a walk along the esplanade is pretty much a must do. You will find yourself strolling down here at least once during your stay.

It isn't an attraction in and of itself, but it is essentially a gentrified promenade with great views over the river and of Kuching, and nice, if a little pricey, stalls to stop for drinks or a snack. It is perfect for a romantic stroll with your partner, especially of an evening when the sun sets and the lights come on.

The food stalls are okay, nothing special, but they are nice enough to stop for a little snack. The satay chicken is particularly good in many places. However, I think you are paying a lot more for the ambience and the view as you eat, as places off the esplanade are a lot cheaper with a lot more to offer.

buy everything at the main street bazaar before you leave! the prices of the same goods are 10 times more at the airport :0

different shops vary from price so number one is to ask around how much the thing you want cost. of course if you buy more its cheaper. then the shop with the cheapest price wins!!! :)

i had unique sarawakian food at the food shop along the main st bazaar but cant remember the name . all i remember is that next to this shop there is a bunch of cats ( small cute ones) protected by a barrier so they will not be lost by their owner.

the food we had was unique and yummy. you wont believe it but one bowl of sarawak laksa was like 1$!!!!!!!!! yes i hope you will find this food place i definetely recommmend you to try the sarawak dishes such as mee kolok, mee jawa, beef noodle, laksa sarawak!!!

so happy shopping and eating at jalan bazaar you will not be disappinted. yes its right in front of the water front. :)
