Friday was certainly the day to go. All shops were open and there was even a few extra markets. The K-POP shop on the second level was excellent, a lot of souvenirs very well priced. The money changer on the lower ground floor was great, best rates.

Sarawak Plaza is the 1st shopping mall in Kuching & is within walking distance to Kuching Waterfront, situated along the Sarawak River. The mall opens daily from 10:00 am – 9:30 pm.
My partner & I decided to check it out as it was the closest mall to our Hotel. It was already quite late when we arrived by foot. There were 2 fast food joints on the ground floor, mainly KFC & Pizza Hut. We also noticed a massage centre operated by the blind located on the lower ground.
Based on our observation, the Mall caters to a niche market of followers. It is a good place if you’re searching for sport apparels & souvenirs to bring back home. Otherwise, don’t bother. It can look pretty dead & slow moving.
Nevertheless, I came back with a kaftan & printed batik sarong from one of the souvenir shops. The prices were reasonable & the designs were trendy & contemporary.
One visit is enough. I would look to other malls for a more positive shopping experience.

It is an old mall, nothing much is left there except for sports wear shops and some eateries.
you can still drop by to visit, but i would say, 15 to 20min max?

This mall is pretty much dead now. But if you like sportswear (Nike, Adidas, Puma, Under Armor) it is still worth a stop. There are 4 or 5 great stores on the ground floor.

I always dined at KFC when I was in high school many years back and it's still around. The plaza is at least 30 years old and not much to roam but it's nostalgia.

The location is undeniably excellent. Sarawak Plaza used to be one of the "mostest" for shoppers, both residents and visitors. With many businesses closed down or moved out, there's hardly anything to go there for. Even food chain stores in this shopping center appears quite deserted.

Located close to the waterfront, this is an older mall with still much to offer. Stores selling sports gear and apparel, some nice restaurants, souvenir stores and retail outlets. Prices here are reasonable and selections decent. The mall is clean and it is nice to browse around out of the heat of the day.

Located very close to water front and other prominent Hotels near water front. This plaza is very old and mostly you will find a very big store for sports goods. Though there are other stores as well but mostly you will find local stuffs and perhaps nothing much for foreigners.
However there are few good restaurants like KFC, Pizza Hut, Chicken Den where you can enjoy your lunch or dinner. The washrooms are neat and clean. Not very crowded as compared to other plazas in Kuching.

4 stars. Weird, huh? =D
Again, depending on what you are looking for in a shopping complex, it will always be 50-50. for instance, i don't like Pavilion KL or SOGO KL even though they are many people's favourite.
I simply enjoyed Sarawak Plaza because I'm a sportwear person. The sport items come in many brands with affordable prices and promotions. I especially love the extensive choices for kids wear.
Plus, the KFC and Hartz Chicken Buffet downstairs are more enough for my family's appetite.
Toilets and escalators were in good conditions. Cleanliness was OK because there were not many people.
Other things? I also enjoyed looking at the arts and craft shop near the lobby entrance because their prices are cheaper than street shops with more choices (for things like batik blouses and pants, fridge magnets, keychains, etc.) The anime-goodies shop was also nice.
The best part? it's beside Grand Mar, where I stayed =D

Sad to see Everise closed its Sarawak Plaza branch on April Fool's day. With Vivacity, CityOne and the Spring up and running, the old outlets have lost its glow. Another example is Seberkas...
