This beach is quite beautiful and wide. It's just that there is no sand visible on the beach. When on holiday, especially Eid al-Fitr, most shanties and tenants are closed so it is difficult to find food.

We went to Damai Beach Resort for the day. It's a good location, with cloud-capped Mt Santubong rising behind it. The beach is clean, though my granddaughter preferred the attractive resort pools when we visited. We ordered lunch in the resort restaurant but were disappointed with the standard.

Beautiful beach and skyline! There is a small river stream that opens into the sea. For those who dont fancy salty sea water, can spend time at the river stream. Coupled with the gorgeous mountain there, definitely good place to fizzle and take photos. Journey there from Kuching city is about 50 minutes, journey is scenic! For driving enthusiasts, this road journey will give you the satisfaction!

Having recently returned from Sarawak, there are a few p
Recently returned from Kuching , Sarawak I though there are a few points worth mentioning.
1. The city area, Damai, Bako National park, are malaria free. I understand the situation may change, but this year and for many years before there were no registered cases of the decease. Although travel agents suggest you have DEET repellent, they don’t sell it in Malaysia as it is highly toxic. No need to bring DEET ( it’s strong enough to use as nail polish remover 😂) unless you go really deep into Borneo jungle.
2. Kuching is a lovely town but it’s small. For people like me who come from cold climates with no beaches, it’s much better to stay on the beach in Damai & take a day city tour to Kuching. The shuttle bus makes regular trips Damai Beach resort - Kuching and back.
3. All the activities can be booked from Damai, also there is a great hiking in Santubong national park - 10 min walk from Damai beach.
4. It’s cheaper to book a taxi from the airport to Damai rather then use hotel services .
5. Wetlands tour is overrated - you will see more in Bako national park ( unless you love wild crocodiles).
6. Overall - people are super friendly, it’s totally safe, the food is great & everything is really cheap

Great environment but sadly can't say the same thing about the rooms, buffet, etc. Rooms need maintenance. Shower heads are dirty. Water flow is slow. Taking a hot bath is impossible. The bathroom walls full of stain. Takes 40 minutes for the bathtub to fill up.
The hotel needs ATM in the hotel. The nearest ATM is 20 minutes drive away.

A nice beach with great views over Santubong mountain, the sea is very warm! Good trip when you have a day/half day left during your stay in Kuching, especially when you combine your visit with the Sarawak cultural village.

Bus is leaving from Great Margherita hotel, return ticket plus entrance fee of the village is around RM100.

After a long journey, there is no better place to relax near the Kuching.
We used the BB bunkers, its very close to the beach, and also to all restaurant and shop. Be aware, most of the restaurants are fastfood, so its not the best option to eat there every day (but there is no other option), also in the shop are mostly chips and food like that.

10 min from the beach is a park resort with a mountain you can climb, but you need to start very early its really hard one.

I wouldn't recommend swimming in Damai beach, there is a lot of seaweed and not many people were swimming. It was hot so I needed a swim but it wasn't the best place for it. I was also stung by a jellyfish, which didn't seem too painful at the time, but later became extremely itchy. I had to go to a pharmacy as due to the heat and humidity there was risk of infection.

I would swim elsewhere.

We hiked the Kubah National Park waterfall trail and afterwards we decided to go to Damai beach for a swim. Water was good, refreshing.

Standing on the Damai Beach, looking at the South China Sea that became more wild as dark clouds gathered on the horizon.
