On my recent trip to KL, we had the pleasure of visiting SGFA. The expansive gallery features contemporary artwork from the local region. The carefully designed gallery is two floors and exhibits work by artists from their artist residency program. The owner, Shalini Ganendra, is very well versed in both the regional and the international art scene and puts collectors and visitors alike at ease.
Located between downtown Selangor and KL, it worth a trip to this local gallery for any art lover. By international market standards, price points are accessible. Check with the gallery to see if they are hosting any educational lectures prior to your visit; we had the opportunity to sit in on a lovely musical event and luncheon. This gallery seems to be quite popular with the local social scene.

SGFA is the perfect space to visit if you have a spare hour in PJ - the architecture is stunning, made by the renowned Ken Yeang, and I loved Zac Lee's art work. They sell organic coffee at the Gallery so you can sit peacefully in the garden, looking at the latest PavilionNOW exhibition made by local students. Definitely worth a visit!

A huge open-plan gallery on the edge Petaling Jaya, Shalini Ganendra Fine Art is a tranquil hidden space offering a diverse range of contemporary art from across Asia. Designed by Architect Ken Yeang, the building presents unique green features including a wind catcher, bioswales and turf ramps, and is the first space of its kind in the region. Overall, it is nice to see a green building that is truly contemporary in design, mirroring the contemporary nature of the Gallery's artworks.
Definitely worth visiting if you have an interest in contemporary Asian art, green architecture or even if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of KL Sentral. At the moment the gallery has exciting works from artists such as Zac Lee, Annikityen Madian and Ru Yi Tan!
They also provide very affordable tea and coffee if you want any refreshments during your visit. Really worth checking out!

I must admit - my expectations were sky-high after seeing this ranked as No. 1 attraction in Petaling Jaya. As an art gallery, this is better than your average art gallery in Malaysia - you don't just come here to see the art, you also come here to enjoy the atmosphere of the house which has tasteful decor.
Having said that, I honestly can't recommend this to tourists visiting Kuala Lumpur and Selangor for just a few days. For one, you will probably finish seeing this place in 30 minutes. Secondly, there is no public transport here. If you get a taxi here, chances are high that you won't be able to find a taxi going back.
If you are a local from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, then I would recommend you to stop by and have a look if you are in the area but you don't have to purposely come all the way here.

Shalini Ganendra Fine Art is a gem in the midst of Petaling Jaya. It attracts visiters and collectors from all over the world who can view, appreciate, learn about and purchase local and South-east Asian art. In a city that is bustling with large-scale international business it is refreshing to find that Malaysia's best artists are being represented in a space that is professional yet reposeful. Especially pleasing to find is that SGFA's reach extends globally with exposure in New York, an artist-in-residency from New Zealand and an exhibition of Australian Indigenous art to occur from June to September 2014.

A residencial property converted into open plan gallery space. Art and sculpture instillations were interesting and thought provoking. The young woman from Canada (whose name escapes us), welcomed and showed us around, offering insights to the art and design process of pieces we found interesting. She was very helpful and we spent some time chatting about life in KL.
Great space to visit for art and design lovers.

I love visiting this space.
Definitely not a 'traditional white space' - by which I mean, this gallery is NOT your typical gallery with art snob intimidation factor that many other galleries have, which removes people from the experience of art. It exemplifies how it is indeed possible to live among beautiful objects and paintings. And I love the gallery's building with strong sculptural presence. (Don't forget to sneak to the side to take a look at the beautiful ceramic installation at Garden of Eden!)
This gallery is the epitome of art is life and, art truly comes alive here.

I was fortunate enough to undertake a one month residency in the gallery as part of the SGFA Exploring East Residency program. I would thoroughly recommend the gallery to anyone with an interest in contemporary Asian fine art. There are some truly inspiring and interesting pieces held here in the gallery's tranquil and open space. Situated in the suburbs of Petaling Jaya, it is a little off the beaten track but is certainly worth the trip. The gallery is currently displaying many beautiful pieces including works from Zac Lee and Anniketyni Madian as well as the still yet striking photographs from Eiffel Chong.

Interesting little gallery - visit it for both, the art (non-conventional exhibitions, and special shows that you don't get in regular art galleries) as well as the Architecture (unique design to maximise airflow and limit the use of air-conditioning). Its in the middle of a residential neighbourhood so it takes some finding (use Waze), and please be considerate with parking/noise so that you don't disturb the neighbours

Hi, I would like to ask if there is an entrance fee for entering and view the art?
