Visiting the cemetery, that is situated near the beach, was for me a holy shock! Especially the grave of the rabai haim pinto , that was well known among the jewish morrocan! I stood near the grave asking for blessings!

Only 5 minute outside of the old city walls, the cemetery isn't easy to find but worth it if you do. If you find a door in a wall and knock if it isn't open, a little old lady should let you in. No longer...More

We had been looking for the gate to be open on a number of occasions and on returning from the Sunday souk (flea market) we noticed it was and went in. Young men were sweeping up the sand that blows over from the beach. There...More

The cemetary reflects the once-large Jewish population of Essaouira who lived harmoniously with the Muslim population. It's not a tourist site, but a piece of the history of Morocco and it's tolerance for all religions.

I had often passed by the Jewish cemetery, either on foot or in the caleche, on my way north to the beach, along Avenue Moulay Hicham, but the front door was always closed and although I knocked a couple of times there was no reply...More

I'm not sure what I was seeing and there was nothing or no one there to help me out. It's not easy to find but it is near the Medina. It's old and holds a lot of history but I was not able to share.

The jewish heritage of the city condenses here in the cemetery, including the impressive grave of the famous Rabbi Pinto. A must see if it is open and if you can find it.

The door was ajar so we knocked and a pleasant older lady ushered us in. Interesting small site at the edge of the town just along from the medina. Clearly a lot of history here. Would be very nice if there was some more information...More

Much tidier than the neglected Christian cemetery closeby, could be due to funding, we'll worth visiting if you have the afternoon to spare

Yes, Rabbi Chaim Pinto synagogue. A very nice woman - Muslim not Jewish looks after it. Her son looks after the two cemeteries. The area where the synagogue is located is under construction and a little sketchy. Safe but... More
