Fantastic ruins that offer some great photo opps; nothing much for tourists to see in terms of facilities or information but well worth a stop if you are in the area.

Good for a short visit when it's not too hot. A bit tricky to find but don't be afraid to ask anyone, the people are all very friendly.

The Bayt (Castle) is closed for further restoration (nothing to do with the RAF destroying it years ago at the then Sultan's invitation!). Always check before driving to Omani Forts as they are often closed for works. But there is a good working Falaj with...More

Our group of 22 made a short stop here after touring Nizwa. Birkat al Mawz (Pool of Bananas) is another of the area's traditional oasis villages. Of particular interest here is an ancient falaj, an intricate engineering system of channels that is used to distribute...More

We had visited the ruins before our drive up to Jebel Akhdar. Beautiful ruins but watch your steps when wandering around as the ruins are very old and many have collapsed already. And be advised that there is no parking lot there. Better to park...More

Since we were on the way we decided to make a stop. The views from the top are quite nice. Just be careful not to step on an actual roof that can collapse. I would not come here from Muscat just to see it.

Hiking in Jabal Al Akhdar and visiting Birakt Al Mouz is a pleasant experiance. But suggest you continue to Jabal Shams - The Sun Muntain.

This crumbling ruined old village holds a bit of old Omani magic. We walked alone through the ancient alleys, timbers and mud tumbled around us, a few Indian guest workers squatting in abandoned rooms. The water still flows through the canals and goats still graze...More

It was a short and pretty hike to the ruins but it may be difficult in the last part. The ruins are interesting and the view was good.
