Nothing Compares!

I am so grateful that I was able to go on this epic hike with my son in October of this year. It wasn't easy, and in retrospect, we probably could have been better prepared. We got off the little boat to begin the "45 minute hike" at about 11:30 in the morning, just as the day was really heating up. Bad timing. And maybe for some it's a 45 minute hike, but that was not my experience. I took my time, which slowed my son down considerably, but he didn't seem to mind. We had water, snacks, hats, sturdy shoes ( well, mine were sturdy) Mostly I would recommend getting an earlier start than we did. And it's not an easy hike! I found parts of it pretty challenging, perhaps because I'm not a twenty something scampering over the rocks. Also, and most importantly- you must be a reasonably strong swimmer (they will tell you this) before attempting to go into the cave at the end of the hike. It is most definitely worth every effort and more to see the cave with the waterfall. We were the only people there and it was indescribable to experience that! I don't think I would do it again, but I don't need to. Anyone who is able to, who enjoys hiking and swimming and amazing experiences- find your way to this magical place and soak it in. You will not regret it.

Wadi shab was amazing! The views were so beautiful throughout the hike & the swim was really fun.
We are travelling to Oman for the first time so we weren’t sure of the route etc we chose to have a guide. Best decision we made. Our guide, Valentina, was exceptional. I don’t usually leave such reviews however she really made our whole experience. She drove us there & back ( to our hotel), wadi shab, wadi tiwi and then made a final stop at Bimmah sink hole. She is so knowledgable of the area. She was able to guide us on the best route to hike and even taught me how to swim in the pools! I cannot recommend Valentina enough, I am sure she will make anyones’ experience as enjoyable as ours. I have left her contact details below:

We arrived there and took up the offer if going with a guide. We would never regret this. Best decision ever. He was great. Knew all the good spots. Took us all the way and was really kind with the kids. We took a boat. Hiked. Swam and jumped from cliffs. My kids said it was the best day of their lives. Do not miss.

morning walk

Very nice place to pass 4-5 hours. You'll take a walk for 1 hour and then some swimming to the cave with the waterfall. Take with you a waterproof bag and sun protection. Shoes should be comfortable for walking and swimming

I loved this trip. It is a beautiful place to go. It is a little tiring because it takes to many hours in car. Please be aware if you are allergic to bees, bring your Epi Pen. There are bees everywhere!

Great wadi
Oct 2019 • Family
Wadi Shab is the most popular wadi, being about 1 and a half hours from Muscat. You park your car in a car park and then pay 1 rial pp to get a small boat across to start the hike.

The hike is a little haphazard as there are sometimes random half built buildings in the middle of the path and there is as with many places lots of litter around. There is a bit of boulder scrambling before you reach the river, about an hours walk.

The river starts shallow but does get deeper in places. We often just take our rucksacks and put inside blown up kiddies armbands. This keeps us afloat and means we can take snacks and waterproof cameras etc.

The river swimming is about 20ish mins before you reach the tunnel into the open air cave. The cave is very special and highly recommended but you are out of your depth so you need to be a strong swimmer or have a floatie of some sort.

It's a great day out but what people don't realise is there are many other wadis around that are equally as amazing.

My only big issue is the litter situation. Otherwise its wonderful.

An amazing water experience in a desert country
Dec 2019
I had one full day in Oman and I would totally recommend it as a stop-over destination between Australia and the UK. We drove out here and it was absolutely stunning. The walk to the river is quite long and I recommend decent shoes (my flip flops were annoying and slippery) but totally worth the effort. Bring your swimmers. You will need some local currency to catch the boat across the river and there are limited food options so take your own.

Have to see
Mar 2020 • Family
Its very hard to reach, and we tired too but, that place feels you excited and satisfied in the end. One of the hardest place that i've visited before in the world but we did with 4 years old son and supported ourselves together in some dangerous times.but i saw a lot of old people and babies here, so you can try. I really impressed a lot of things in Oman, this is the best one.

Astonishing
Feb 2020
there s a good walk inside the canyon, but the most beautiful part of Wadi Shab is the last one when you can swim until the end of it, if you re lucky to visit in the evening before closing time may be u can find the place not crowded, in this case is really magic.
