Rooms perfectly comfortable and clean for a nights stay. Remember it is a conservation center so do not expect luxury. Strongly suggest you arrive the afternoon so that you have access to the beach where you will later return to see the turtles, will give you a better understanding in daylight the vast area and the amount of turtles that come onto the beach.
Night tour was unfortunately very busy - the guides did their best to control people and those few children who were not behaved did spoil it (most children were quiet and respectful though). I would have preferred to pay more money but less people - we need to respect the Turtles privacy and space as much as possible.
The 4.30am tour was amazing - sooo much less people and to arrive in darkness into the light was a special experience. Not so many Turtles at this time of morning - but more than enough to see. My guide Khamis was very good.

We stayed in a tent which had a very small shower room attached. The bed was comfortable and although the room was basic I didn't have a problem with that. Also the food was OK but what I had a problem with was lack of correct information. By 8.30pm loads of people had gathered in the main room of the Reserve building and also in the hallways as we had been told the meet then. At 9.30pm we were still there and the only information that trickled through was that only one turtle had been spotted and kept moving. Eventually we joined one of the first groups to go outside and after walking for 10 minutes on the beach in the pitch dark we were told to stop and not talk. We stood there for 20 minutes and then were told to walk some more as the turtle had moved. This kept happening. Eventually by the red light the guide held we saw one turtle make it's way to the sea, then we walked back, arriving at the Reserve at 11.10pm. I realise it was necessary to keep quiet, although the guide chatted on his phone, but to keep us hanging around for so long and make us expect to see turtles when there was very little chance of that was wrong. The Reserve should make it clear when people book that this time of year very few turtles lay their eggs and only in June when it's over 40 degrees and too hot for tourists to visit do they make their way up the beach. It was a total waste of time.

We liked the place, they provide turtles watching tours twice a day, at 9PM and at 5AM. You have to be at the reception 30 minutes before.
We were lucky to see turtles on the beach and entering the sea) our guide was very nice to explain a lot about their life.
The place has also a small museum inside

This was a very bad experience. Groups of 20 people, no covid measures, awful food but the worst was that there was fully exploitation of the turtles. 100 people on the beach for sure is not an eco approach

We stayed in the rustic luxury eco tents. The luxury tents offer a sense of clam and tranquillity that you won't necessarily get in the main part of the but area 5 minute walk to the lobby for breakfast and dinner. The food could be better, but we did not come here for that so won't overly fussed.

Thoroughly enjoyed the turtle watching experience, we saw a turtle laying eggs as as well as a baby turtle trying to make its way to the sea. The tour lasted approx 75 mins and was a wonderful experience, thanks to our guide who was very knowledgeable.

My only suggestions to truly make this an exo turtle reserve and not a hotel built on a turtle reserve would be to:

1) Limit the number of people each night. The event is generally well managed with people split into small groups and the guides outlining the rules and

2) Stop people driving on the beach. I have no idea why this is allowed but surely it presents a danger to the turtles.

This is clearly a for-profit tourist attraction and NOT a reserve! For everybody who cares about animals this experience might be more distressing than wonderful. We were certainly stepping on baby turtles during the tour.

~~~~~
We've visited the turtle reserve for the 9pm tour with a group of 16 people. There were 4 groups, which means that there were around 60 to 80 people on the beach at once. So many people on the beach was already very worrisome.
Understandibly, we were not supposed to use normal flashlights on the beach as they disturb the turtles. Only the tour guide used a red light. Because we were such a big group, this also meant that besides maybe the first 3 people in front, everybody else didn't see where they were going and what they were stepping on.
As the eggs are 1 meter in the ground this is no problem - BUT they were turtle babies making their way to the sea!!
We were sitting on the beach while the guide explained to us some interesting facts and all of the sudden there were baby turtles in the middle of the group.
We were certainly sitting on them and stepping on them while they tried to get to the ocean! Honestly, this was beyond disturbing.
With so many people on the beach, I can't even imagine how many baby turtles are being stepped on every day by visitors!
It would have been a wonderful experience with only a handful people and where everybody has a red light so they know where they are going. But the way they handle it now, it is very worrisome and has nothing to do with a reserve.
Please, dear Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, do something about it!!
The turtle laying / hatching experience can be magical, but here's some ideas about how Ras Al Jinz turtle 'reserve' can improve:
1. Cap the number of visitors per day.
2. Don't allow people to drive on the beach. They can do this on every other beach in Oman, they don't need to do it on this one.
3. Ban people from taking plastic water bottles to the beach for turtle watching. Many of them just drop them on the beach when they are done.
4. Have a designated place for leaving shoes - so many people can't find them when they are finished with the tour and they are just discarded on this beach.
5. Don't have single use plastics at the hotel - the buffet is full of plastic plates and cutlery. Still wondering which part of this is 'eco'?
6. Guides need to educate groups before going to the beach. If people don't know the rules, how can they follow them? Was distressing seeing people run after turtles to take flash photos and walk in front of them while laying eggs.
7. If guides can't speak English, don't assign them to the English speaking group.
I've visited twice - the first time was magic with very few people. The second time was like a zoo, not very well managed and obviously for profit. I feel like it's a hotel on a turtle nesting beach rather than a reserve. Hopefully changes will be made. Best time to visit is during the week and not on school holidays.
I stayed at the turtle reserve (Oman tourism) for a night.
The buffet at the restaurant was fantastic .
The guide was very knowledgeable and he spent a lot of time showing us the turtles. The morning tour of the beach was out of the world. One could see the turtles returning to the sea after laying eggs at night.
Loved the food and the stay. Mind blowing !
A treat to all senses.
Ras Al Jinz resort is a mix of eco-tourism, scientific and family leisure experience. The eco- tent gives you a calm and peaceful moments. Also the turtle watching tour adding values to your visit especially with kids. Watching baby turtles is really lovely and cute moments. Knowing about turtles means knowing about key creatures in sea life. Oman is a blessed land where 5 out 7 type of turtles come yearly to nest at Omani coastal. There sunrise and after sunset turtle watching tour, first one would be more excited if you can get up early 😉.
Also make sure to visit the turtle museum and know more about those important animals.
