We woke at the crack of dawn to see going through one lock. It is fascinating how it is done. We visited this lock seven years ago on foot. It was exciting to be able to go through by ship.

The Panama Canal has to be one of the most iconic engineering projects ever. To be able to get this close and see it working is wonderful. There is plenty of information to take in but just watching what's going on is fascinating. Also the scale of it compared with UK canals is remarkable. Personally I'd have liked to spend... More

Visiting the Panama Canal has long been on my bucket list and I finally got to visit via a cruise ship in January. It's incredible to witness the symphony of moving these huge ships through this tiny canal. What a testament to engineering and the ingenuity and perseverance of man! Even though this is now crossed off my bucket list... More

Wonderful place to visit in your lifetime. I'd choose this over the new locks. So much history. Yes technology is used but it's still old school. Lots of friendly staff to wave to as they transport ships through.

You have to experience this at least once! We did this on a cruise ship and I was in awe with the process of moving a ship through the locks. The history of it is exciting. It us a must see while in Panama.

Was on our bucket list but would to be a repeat . Very interesting to see engineering marvel from over 100 years ago. We got off the ship and took trip to the Pacific Ocean but did not realize most of it would be in a bus. Would not recommend that excursion from the ship. By the way, we had... More

This was the second time we've gone through the locks. The best way to see the entire thing is to get up on your cruise ships deck around 5:00 a.m. You'll see the ship go through the breakwater and you'll be able to view the ships lined up to go through the locks. It's an amazing sight. Also, you'll enjoy... More

FYI: We only saw this from the ship, passing up and down! Yeah, thanks to an ignorant concierge on our ship, we bummed out on shore excursions. I would've loved to see the locks from the inside (I hear it's a great experience). We didn't, but it was still amazing. Each trip (up and down) takes about two hours, and... More

We stopped at the Locks on our way to the train in Panama City. We got to see a couple of ships actually pass through the Locks. There was one of the bull gears to see as well as an old "mule" and one of the newer varieties. While waiting for the bus we saw a coatimundi. I thought he... More
