Such and incredible thing to see. While in Panama, you must stop by and watch the locks in action. Incredible experience.

A great feat of engineering cruising through the Gatun Locks. We chose to stay on the ship so as to cruise both ways through the Panama Canal

We went with NCL on a 17 day cruise out of Miami to Seattle. We were delighted to go through all the original locks and spent all day going through all 3 from the Caribbean to the Pacific. The history and learning about this passage...More

Chose to do a private tour rather than the one offered by the cruise ship we were on. The cruise ship's tour was £129, we paid $15 each and 6 of us shared a private bus. The driver was very knowledgeable and didn't rush us...More

Came thru the Gatun Locks on the Norwegian Pearl. Just incredible to see the canal hear the history from the historian on board and how the ships are brought thru the locks.

The Locks, both old and new, are an amazing site to see. We have been to both the old and new locks and seen ships pass through both. It is extremely fascinating to see.

While people are going on excursions, can you stay on the ship? Is the ship moving or docked for part of that time?

For sure you can remain a n the boat when in port! Although there are a few ports where you are tendered in by boat as the ship is "anchored" in the bay

Visiting the Panama Canal is also a "bucket list" item for us. We're scheduled to go on the Celebrity cruise the first week of May and I noted they just added a full day "ferry ride" excursion. I'm thinking it's the same as yours. While you are transiting, is there commentary on the history, what you are viewing, etc.? I'm concerned it's just "sitting" on the ferry without any lecture/insights. Your feedback is most welcome as I'm a bit of a geek on this subject. Thanks!!
