Ivan Susanin is a national hero who protects our country from enemies. That's why this monument stands on the hill and faces the river Volga. If you come to Kostroma by boat, the first thing you'll see is this great monument. The monument is huge and it symbolizes the power of Russian people.

Located near the center, the monument is perfectly fine for what it is, so you can spend all of 2 minutes looking at and move on. 100% of tourists will have no idea who Ivan Susanin was, so this monument has limited interest.
