after visiting main collection on Petrovka, I visited the 5 - storey annex near Patriarshkie Ponds, what an embarrassment. the ticket sellers were angry I did have "exact change" the art on display was simply not interesting even for the most curious viewer waste of time

The outside yard which is free to visit is perhaps more interesting than the inside which has an entrance fee of 350 rubles. Once you get inside you will wander around and wonder where the art is... With the exception of few great and good works which account for no more than ~10% of the exhibits, the rest is a... More

Just 10 mins walking from Tverskaya metro station. A very cosy and lovely location. The sculptures outside was okay but I fell in love with the pieces from Timur Novikov and MishMash especially. There is also souvenir shop that sell carefully chosen art books. 350rub for ticket, 500rub and you can visit all the MMOMA branches within the same day.

The famous collections of Chagall, Kandinsky and Malevich in the ul Petrovka 25 site are in storage for the time being. We talked to the curator - she said they want to shake things up with some special exhibitions. We were extremely disappointed in both of the exhibitions that were up in October. I think one was of a Spanish... More

At the mentioned place, changing and well selected expositions of young artists are to be seen. As a rule, there are some general recollections of the tendencies of art worldwide. The graphical works typically are peculiar and of high quality.

We had fun exploring this museum - it's like a labyrinth of expositions, a little wonderland with the strangest things. My five year old daughter enjoyed it too, although by the end we were exhausted, it is a lot to take in. They have a great bookstore/giftshop, with a wide and original selection of art books for kids and adults,... More

This museum is very centrally located and easy to reach. It is also open in the evening (at least on some days), making for a good alternative when all main attractions of Moscow are closed and you have still some spare energy in your legs. The collection is rather small and it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to... More

This Museum has a few annexes in Moscow. Went to two which weren't that impressive. The first was a small two floor gallery that took less than 5 minutes to view. Quite sad really. The one I went to after that was the main museum with the larger collection. Aside from size, it didn't offer much more as far as... More

The collection is almost exclusively Russian and contemporary. The MMOMA as they like to call themselves, is really nothing like the MOMA in NYC which I rather hoped it would be. Many of the art works feature text, in Russian and so if you don't read Russian these pieces will be lost on you. Some of the display, due to... More

Without too much expectations I visited the MMoMA. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice collection of art the museum has in it's possesion. The library near the end of the visit formed the perfect spot to reflect on the visit. A must see for fans of modern art.

Staying in Tverskaya

Neighbourhood Profile
Tverskaya can’t be discovered with just a first glance, the neighborhood is shaped around a long street populated with well-known shops and brands. But it’s more than shopping that makes this place interesting. Take a few steps into the streets running parallel to the main artery to discover the charm just behind the mighty Stalinist style architecture. Comfy European pedestrian streets Bolshaya Dmitrovka or Stoleshnikov lane are a great place to start. Locals can be found here working, eating, shopping, resting and going to the Bolshoi Theatre in the evening.
