To understand and to fall in love with the city of Vladivostok, which had been changing during its entire history, you have to come to the Main Museum in the city. Today this place is the biggest and fullest exhibition complex, which is changeable, mobile, a real mix of traditional and modern museum technologies. Unique cult things, that belong to Balhae Kingdom and Chjurchjyeni Golden Empire, artifacts of the period when Far Eastern territory was just found and settled are also very interesting. One of the special museum projects is the book-exhibition <<Eleonor Pray. Letters from Vladivostok.>>, which is based on letters and photos that reflect a whole epoch. When you've touched history of the region in the exhibition space, you can go out to hte Vladivostok streets. The best navigator for you is museum, which can offer you bus and walking tours around the city and Russian Island. To remember Vladivostok you can buy nice souvenirs and books in Museum shop.

Several floors of rooms. 200 rubles entry fee. There's a great collection of local tribal clothing and artefacts and some ancient artefacts. Most of the other collections are from 18th-20th centuries. There are some good traditional Russian head dresses. There's a room of stuffed animals but luckily it's quite small. I think the museum is worth a visit. The explanations... More

Having grown up in Vladivostok I remember visiting museum several times on school field trips or with family and friends. I still remember things I learned there! A couple of years ago I visited with my husband (from the US) and he was fascinated to learn about diverse native and plant life of the region as well as its rich... More

Good museum with great displays. I wish it had English for the foreign visitors. I think I would have enjoyed it more.

This museum for many years was while interesting very much in the old soviet style and a little neglected. It has since had quite an impressive refit and is now much more foreigner friendly. Plenty to see and easy to spend a couple of hours here. Will give visitors to the city a great insight into the whole region.

I do not understand why there are so many things about this museum in the list. I think that visiting Vladivostok and not visiting it will render a very much different perspective of the city, much poorer. Let us be clear, the museum is not great. It is not comparable to many museums around the world, but being the local... More

There is not a huge amount of places to go in VVO, so this is on most tour groups' agenda. When they go through, it can be difficult to see, let alone get close to the artifacts. However, if you have the time to wait, you will get to see everything. There is an eclectic variety of things to examine.... More

This local museum tries hard but suffers from a lack of focus in that it tries to cover everything from local natural history, military exhibits, Soviet era ephemera, needlepoint demonstrations and art exhibitions. A bit of an uncoordinated mix needing a stronger managerial hand to give more focus to what could be an excellent local history museum. Still well worth... More
