Description:

The submarine is one of the most popular objects of the Museum of the World...

The submarine is one of the most popular objects of the Museum of the World Ocean. The B-413 was built in Leningrad and was launched in September, 1968. During 30 years it had been serving in the North and Baltic Fleets. The submarine was moored at the museum quay in June, 2000. It is the only one in the country and a few in the world belonging to pre-atomic period of undersea fleet. Moreover, it is preserved in its original state. Firm and light hulls, superstructure, all the major and auxiliary mechanisms, equipment and weapons are the same as they were after the submarine was excluded from the Navy. What strikes you most as you walk along the narrow corridors and squeeze through the seemingly miniscule portholes that protect each section, is the incredible mechanical complexity. This 1960s technology required pipes, cumbersome and hard wearing switches and large well worn wheels to keep the submarine either afloat or submerged, as needs dictated.

I really enjoyed my visit to the museum and especially the chance to walk/climb through the sub! I was there on a rainy Thursday morning and was the only person in the submarine so had the chance to take my time looking around. As others have said the signs are mostly in Russian although it tells you the name of... More

We visited it with few colleagues during some kind of celebration nearby and it was quite amazing to see how such an old submarine looks like, mainly from inside. I am arround 190cm tall and it was very difficult for me to move over there. Still very interesting show. Entry fee during our visit was about 200RUB (2.5EUR).

Spent a terrific hour while roaming the narrow corridors, peeking inside the sailors' sleeping quarters, the lavatory, the kitchen, the community rooms, and other spaces. An awesome amount of ironmongery, miles or wires, cables, and pipes. Interesting information through audio guide, however, in Russian only. The place could become a magnet for foreigners.

Just by stepping down few steps into the submarine's lower deck you can tell from the smell all is original... Having served at the Navy myself I was moved to take a trip back in time and highly recommend you to do this trip - it will also test your 'fitness' level as you have to bend bodies to pass... More

A fascinating step back in time inside a Foxtrot class Submarine. Exhibits have some English translation so gives you a good insight into a cold war submarine. This is not for anyone who is isn't flexible as you have to climb through small hatches and enclosed spaces.

Very nice insight to see a submarine from the inside, nicely presented museum, you go through the submarine and discover how people worked/lived on it. Nice for kids as well, also part of a bigger museum, where you can also view other ships. Careful if you are claustrophobic, you need to go through the real thing, small ladders as well,... More

Audio guide sounds over the radio, that's why they managed to keep all these things as they were when it was a navy submarine and not to replace everything with the photos and books: real cabins, periscope, handles, controls, etc. Thanks to the organizers!

My first time on a submarine, diesel type, it is a bit difficult to walk around as there are compartment meant to be closed not by normal doors! It is really great fun, original equipment, well kept. There is inside also a kalashinkov, a marine vest for deep immersions and many other items. Few notes always written in Russian, but... More
