The Museum is basically a vast scenic park with beautiful nature, the ground of which is covered with amazing wooden buildings brought here from different parts of Novgorod region. Thanks to that through this architecture the visitors can receive close-to-perfect understanding of how Russia looked like centuries ago. Advice: plan the separate day for the visit, so not to be... Absolutely great, especially in the end of February - beginning of March, when "Maslenitsa" (end of winter) is celebrated.

Just very close to the St. George ( St Yuriev) Monastery is located this beautiful museum of folk wooden art and architecture. Also, the Vitoslavitsy Museum is set in the beautiful entourage of the forest, river Volkhov and two lakes. In fact, this Museum represents the group of log cabins, shacks, real Russian peasant houses, churches and warehouses, collected here from... More

Fascinating open air museum. The buildings are beautiful and unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. I would particularly recommend visiting the little farm, the woman who runs it is fantastic and clearly very passionate about what she does.

We really enjoyed our visit to this historic open air museum - we found it the most picturesque place in the Novgorod region. Vitoslavlitsy, near the medieval city of Novgorod the Great, features an impressive array of wooden structures ranging from small chapels (including impressive log churches, some dating to the 16th century) to village houses whose interiors display period... If you like wooden architecture, this is your place. And if you don't, still go and visit. The museum offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about how people used to live. It's not just the buildings, but you can enter some of the houses and see old artifacts of every kind. It's about 15 minutes by bus from the town... More

The Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture is near Veliky Novgorod and is worth to visit it. The timber houses and churches of museum are moved here from villages near the old road from S. Petersburg to Moscow. Inside the houses you will find very interesting ancient interior exhibits. Personnel of museum inside the houses wear national costumes.

This outdoor museum shows traditional timber houses and churches from the 16th century onwards, rebuilt by a prominent architect. There are no nails used and the setting is beautiful among trees and near a lake. St George's monastery can be seen in the distance. One house is open with a display of kitchen implements, living area and shed. It is... More
