The island is part of a vast number of islands on lake onezhs-koye. The island has a number of interesting buildings but is most famous for its wooden Orthodox Church. It is magnificent. The wood that they used has taken on a sheen that makes...More

The hydrofoil to Kizhi is something to experience. Unfortunately, it is the only way to the island. Take some sea-sickness medication if you don't have sea legs. Otherwise, just sleep it off. Wear GOOD walking shoes. Never mind how you look. Wear warm clothes if...More

Delightful visit. Cathedral is stunning and many of the other buildings are fascinating. Well worth the visit.

Kizhi Island (a UNESCO world heritage site) is probably the most remote, quiet, peaceful place I have ever been to. We stopped there during the Mosturflot River Victoria cruise from St Petersburg to Moscow (an excellent cruise). The island is in the middle of Lake...More

Its really easy to get there by boat, don't swim there, and walk there, just take a boat there. Its not that difficult.

In the summer season the hydrofoils to Kizhi island, although very expensive for the Russian standard (we paid the return ticket 2750 rubles per person, about 40 Euros; but I understand that the Russian citizens pay half), are packed. So when we applied at the...More

Hi! Basically, we are coming to Russia for 10 days, flying in and out of Moscow. We plan to spend 2 days at the beginning of our trip to Moscow then go to St. Petersburg for 4 days and then return to Moscow. I also want to fit in Kizhi so I thought once we come back to Moscow we can take the night train Petrozavodskwe for a day trip to Kizhi. However, does it make more sense to do the following route: Moscow to Petrozavodskwe by night train (approx 13 hrs.) - Kizhi (day visit) - Petrozavodskwe night train to St. Petersburg (approx 7/8 hrs) then after spending 4/5 days there fast train back to Moscow. 1. The important question is - where can I leave luggage in Petrozavodskwe ? Does the train station have any storage facilities and is this time bound? Don't want a situation where my luggage is stuck in Petrozavodskwe. 2. Is this triangle plan (Moscow - Petrozavodskwe -St. Pets - Moscow) more doable? Thank you!

Does hydrofoil operate in early May? I and my friend (2 people) plan to visit Kizhi island on 3 May. DO I need to take individual tour or I can take hydrofoil from the ferry terminal?

The Kizi Island is open for visiting from the 1st of June, so the ferries are not operating before that.
