Here, on the Angliyskaya Embankment near the Blagoveshensky(Annunciation) Bridge is located this magnificent mansion. It was owned by Count Nikolay Rumyantsev at the start of 19th century. He was a patron of the arts and passionate collector. And You can assure in that from the very entrance in this neoclassical building. In the mansion-museum there is a formidable collection of... This is an off-the beaten track museum, a surprisingly quiet and not crowded place even in high tour season, situated in the city center. Being a former palace of count Rumyantsev, it preserves some beautiful interiors - on one hand, and on the other hand, in the same building, in the rooms that have not preserved its glamour because they... Don't miss the section on the siege of Leningrad. There is amazing film footage and photographs which really capture what those years must have been like. There was one tiny museum staffer who spoke some English and was delightful. I wonder if she lived through it as a child?

We had originally visited this beautiful building to enjoy it as a museum. Artifacts and pieces of the last centuries were well displayed. In learning the history this had been the first museum in this city but the original items were moved to Moscow, not to the curators delight. Recently the restoration has attempted to regain some of the olde... More

I do not know how permanent it is, but when we visited this grand house the main exhibition on display was about the 1941-1944 siege of the city, including photographs, maps, a reproduction of the daily bread ration, the notebook in which the child recorded the successive deaths of other members of the family and the record deck from the...
