Amazing collection of Russian art, very rewarding but extensive. Note that this is a rather large museum so you should plan quite a bit some time to enjoy it properly - about 3h if you plan well. There are useful maps though. Favorites - Kandinsky...More

If you love Russian art, you'll love this well curated museum. Get a QR scanner app for your smartphone (Kaspersky worked well on my Android). The museum has QR codes for some items in its collection so you can get detailed information about the art...More

All my life I've wanted to see Ilya Repin's paintings, especially the Volga Barge Haulers, which has made a deep impression on me even if seeing it only in photos before. I spent more than half an hour sitting right in front of the real...More

This is an amazing collection of classic russian artwork that illustrates how russian artists in history have influenced and been influenced by the other european masters. No propoganda here or patriotic stuff, just the most incredible, emotional, heart-felt work of the Russian masters.

I entered by the door on the side of the building, closer to the Church which was quieter than the main entrance. What a lovely museum, lots of amazing Russian art in a huge old building. Well set out. There is a very nice restaurant...More

Not much to see after being to the hermitage . Looks neglected and only is catered for Russian tourists and locals . Hardly saw any tourists there.

I loved this place. The hermitage had been crowded, hot and tiring. By comparison this was a dream, mainly because I know nothing about Russian art. I'll go again before I leave and this time will get an audio guide to enhance the experience .

Yes there is a cloak-room, and they will store small luggage. I'm not sure if they'll accept suitcases or larger bags. Didn't see any.
