Enormous (size) museum, but quite interesting and extremely well organized. As with many large muses, the biggest challenger is to decide what to see. We had the advantage of a guide and I must recommend this approach. Granted you feel bad about skipping sections but...More

In Russia, there are two important museums housing Russian art including icons, paintings and sculptures. One is the Tretyakov museum in Moscow and the second one is this museum. I find Tretyakov has a bigger selection and more authors but it is still worth your...More

Purchase the 4 palaces tickets to visit also the Stroganoff palace, the Marble Palace and Michalowsky Castle. Nothing impressive, especially compared with the Winter Palace / Hermitage...but still nice to visit other palaces in St Petersburg, recently renovated and opened to public

This has some good stuff. In particular some good Malevich and Kandinsky. But the General Staff Building has better modern stuff. I guess if you're really into 19th century Russian portraiture then this is your jam.

We visited at the end of a four day visit to St Petersburg. The collection is large (though not like the Hermitage!) and well presented, in chronological order - it was very good to be able to see the way Russian art had developed over...More

More than 400.000 pieces of Russian art can be seen in this Museum. It goes all the way back to the 11th, century, and the first rulers of Russia.

Yes there is a cloak-room, and they will store small luggage. I'm not sure if they'll accept suitcases or larger bags. Didn't see any.
