I spent much longer here than intended because the temporary exhibits were fantastic. Without those, many restored rooms are beautiful and worth a visit if you have time.

Located near the canal is the Mikhailovskiy Castle Historical Museum. The palace has later converted into a military engineering academy and thus being called as Engineering Castle as well. Entrance fee is required to view the arts collection and historical items inside. Quite worthwhile if...More

The uniquely designed palace was never well-preserved and still is not (and probably never will be) completely restored. It is a huge circular building which now houses temporary exhibitions of the State Russian museum, so except from interiors (of which very few are restored) its...More

We would have loved to see inside this impressive building but unfortunately it was closed. The best we could do was peer into the courtyard where work was in progress, preparing for an exhibition. However, the exterior is extremely good.

An interesting exhibition in the home of the slightly mental Paul I. All most interesting parts were explained quite well in English too. Fascinating section on more recent Russian history as well as the imperial age.
