Beautifully illuminated

I was really fascinated how beautifully illuminated are all the buildings along the Neva river. I do recommend late evening walk along the Neva river and canals.

My wife and I first took a bus ride along part of the river embankment with an excellent English speaking guide. This gave us an idea of our bearings and the best areas to walk which we did the following day, the embankments are surprisingly peaceful in most parts. We then took a night-time canal cruise complete with vodka and... More

Great in a spring or summer day, best at the midsummer, Great place to be and spend the long white nights or some evening hours on the shores of river.

Taking boat ride on the Neva is a nice way to see the embankment from a distance. A nice break from a lot of walking .

I took a one hour canal ride to view the embankment for the River Neva. I accidentally chose a boat with only Russian speaking tour guide, so am not sure of the names of all the buildings I photographed - which I can now identify from the maps! The tour took us through only some of the large number of... More

The views along the Neva are stunning, though so was the cold wind. This is a pleasure best enjoyed in small doses simply because the cold wind is wearing. But, there really is no way to limit the vastness. So, walk along all you can handle and marvel at the grandness, the enormity, the vision and finally, the endurance during... More

The Neva River embankments are wide and scenic. As you drive from one end to the other on either side of the river as well as when you cross over the several bridges, you feel a sense of dejavu - as if you could be in any major city in the west. There is a charm about the river itself.... More

Our visit had blue skies but a fierce cold wind. A nice place when the weather is great. Windy and cold when it is not.

The river embankments are nothing special, just rock walls retaining earth from eroding into the river. The same way embankments in Venice provide views of the waterways and gondolas to skim across the water. Why then such a high rating? Duh! The stone retaining walls are not the attraction. That comes in the form of the promenades that line the... More

This is the place to soak in when you go to St. Petersburg. We were lucky not to be caught in a rain so typical of Peter in the summer. We lingered by the monument to Peter the Great, thinking of Pushkin's lines. looked at the bridges thinking of Dostoevsky's murderer-hero, and marvelled at the sheer scale of things. Two... More
