We decided to drive down in the afternoon and camp out for the night. It's not difficult to get to with GPS. We read online that there is no mobile phone coverage but we had full bars throughout the entire trip, so it isn't totally "off the grid". If you are planning to camp for the night, be aware that... This is an ancient volcano so do not expect mountains or wisps of smoke from imminent eruptions that you see on films and TV. It is also about a 2.5 hour car ride from Ta'if. But when you get there, it is a pretty amazing sight. There is minimal development (a car park, building and rim edge shelters) but that... More

Excellent Place and you can camp even..There are developing the site and a project office can be seen beside the crater.. Best time is to go early morning, somewhere around 6-7 am in winter or spring...and offcourse you need to carry along energy drinks, water, some energy boosting eatables...the silence and calmness is so peaceful..

We visited the Al Wahab crater 2 weeks back. You don't find many visitors there (its still to be explored). Its about 6.5 hours from Riyadh but we visited the same from Jeddah ( on our way back to Riyadh) via al hada so we took about 4.5 hours ( however there is a shorter route as well i guess).... More

We visited Al Wahbah Crater one weekend morning. We left Jeddah early in the morning with the hope of catching the sunrise at the site. Equipped with GPS, we were not able to reach the place in time for sunrise as we got lost along the way. But soon as we reached the exact location, we were just awe but... More

My husband and I have always been in awe of volcanoes so we planned to visit the Al Wahbah Crater as soon as we can. We google mapped the crater and headed out for a roadtrip adventure with a friend from work and my 6yrs old daughter. It was AWESOME! The crater was enormous! It was very different from the... More

Easy desert trip in KSA. Take a 4x4 or SUV. Good camping spots all around and climbing out the crater can be tricky but still worth it.

From Jeddah, 4h30 drive with a normal car on norma roads of good quality leads you to the edge of the crater. Many villages are around with gas stations everywhere. So no need a 4x4 with reserves in fuel and water and a skilled driver. Once there head to the tiny white house on the left 750m away by a... More
