From our hotel, we were close to the Sun and Moon Pagodas. The difference in atmosphere and memorability are significantly more enjoyable in the evening. I’d recommend a visit after visiting East/West Street. The night air, while still brutal were manageable in the evening. The Pagodas are nicely lit in the evening and much more picturesque. Nearby, there are street vendors and musicians making the ambiance of the attraction ideal.

Not opened for going inside as the building suffered water damage from flooding in July. Its a replica built in last decade, better visit at night for the lite up. You could just take a photo from parks around.

This was one of the best attractions in Guilin and good value for money. Great views from the top too.

The Sun and Moon Pagodas (aka, Gold and Silver Pagodas due to their respective gold and silver night-lighting) are located in a very unusual place. They were erected in the water of Fir Lake. The Sun Pagoda is world’s highest bronze, and highest above-water pagoda. It is nine stories and 41 metres in height, while the Moon Pagoda is seven stories. There is an underwater tunnel which connects the two tunnels.
I have attached photos of the night scene near Guilin Sun and Moon Pagodas. Night views are the best.

Located in the central lake of Guilin the Sun and Moon Pagodas are lovely to see especially at night time when they are illuminated. The Moon Pagoda is octagonal and is linked by an underwater tunnel to the Sun Pagoda which has an elevator. Admission cost 45yuan.

These pagodas are worth checking out during the day and are not too busy in the morning. You can go inside the pagodas for 35 RMB but I think they are best enjoyed from the lake or a nearby rooftop patio. Make sure you check out the pagodas at night so you can take a picture and tell your family members which one is which. Lord of the Rings jokes should also be made when posting on Facebook and/or Instagram.
The moon pagoda is easy to walk up and down but the sun pagoda has very steep staircases. The sun pagoda has an elevator and there is an underground tunnel to go between. If you are tall be mindful on the stairs.

Beautiful and Fun but not a trip make or break moment. I would recommend it but not if you have to sacrifice other things. Be on the deck until you see the Commorant Bird Show and then go in the boat. You will miss so much by being inside!

These are beautiful pagodas. You visit one, and note that you go down to the tunnel to visit the other. If these were truly historic they would be more memorable. However it does rather detract to know that they are totally new in their construction. The whole lake area is picturesque.

Our hotel in Guilin overlooked a cliff face and part of a lake - not especially interesting until nightfall. Once it grew dark, we were treated to an amazing light show, that changed the shape and profile of the cliff and lit up the river, its banks, the pagodas and the mountains in the background- and all from our bedroom window.
