I'm so glad we decided to visit this garden. This garden used to be the residence of a famous Japanese actor. Although there's a $10 USD entrance fee, it was really nice being able to get out of the crowd at the bamboo forest and...More

Just off the bamboo grove is this beautiful villa that was built by a famous Japanese actor. The gardens are gorgeous and the scenery is breathtaking. They offer green tea with some sweets in a small tea pavilion. A good place to go to in...More

Lovely gardens - close to Bamboo grove so worth visiting if you are in the area seeing that. We didn't really enjoy our Japanese tea - an acquired taste - but did love sitting in the traditional team house in the gardens - tea included...More

The entrance fee is 1000yen including a cup of green tea and Japanese style snack. Inside of the garden is...More

The most beautiful garden we saw in the land of the most beautiful gardens in the world. These are the pictures I pull out when I tell people of my trip to Japan. It's large by the standard of home gardens but intimate from the...More

Beautiful villa and garden. Not many tourists which is a great plus. It's located at the end of the Arashiyama Bamboo Area. 1000 yen admission fee also includes a small sweet and a bowl of tea.

After the disappointing Bamboo Grove we headed to this highly recommended garden. The entrance is expensive (1000 ¥) but definitely worth it. It includes a matcha tea and biscuit. The garden is very big with loads of dense foliage and tiny paths. There are also...More

Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best
eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved

Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea
houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the
riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature
lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The
