Breathtaking view of the colorful maple leaves on the hill side and along the Oi-gawa River

I had come to Arashiyama to see the Sakura blossom sometime ago and change of maple leave colours was as spectacular. It was a pity that I came at the end of the season (Got... read more

I was surprised to be told that Togetsukyo Bridge was a well known land mark. All I could think of while waiting to cross the bridge was whether it could support the weight of all the people!! Then I realised the fuss was not about the bridge itself but the view from it and the view incorporating it!! Of course... More

I had come to Arashiyama to see the Sakura blossom sometime ago and change of maple leave colours was as spectacular. It was a pity that I came at the end of the season (Got photos from a friend who just visited and made an impromptu visit) so the colour contrast was not as strong as it should be but... More

I love the scenery from the bridge and not the bridge itself. Well you will know what I mean when your there.

The bridge is not special but from the bridge the views to the colorful mountains are just mesmerizing. Wow. People everywhere on the bridge taking photos of the colorful mountains as backdrop and the lake in front. What a postcard pretty picture. You need to see the colors to believe such a place exists or such colors are possible.

This is a long wooden bridge over a wide river with nice hills in the background and a weir. It's pretty to see if you're in the area but not worth a special trip on its own - unless you're a bridge enthusiast.

Recommended place for a stroll around the area. Visited in Oct 2016. We tried the self-boating ride for 45 mins, a great way to immerse yourself in a relaxing and cooling atmosphere.

Really beautiful scenery of the riverside and there are a lot of boats for rental. We took a rowboat down the river, which was amazing. I would recommend just taking few minutes to just take in the scenery and enjoy the view.

Not much to do on the bridge except take pictures ; it is however part of walking between the sights in Arashiyama. Scenic as the entire area is ; there will be rickshaw drivers pitching for your business (90 dollars for 2 people for 30 minutes)

It is an old wooden bridge spanning across a river. It is quite a scenic place. Not much to say about it but if you explore the surrounding area and shops you will find a quaint little shop selling handicraft made from the cocoon of silkworms.

Staying in Western Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The area's famously tall bamboo groves, monkey park, and impressive vistas during the Hanami cherry blossom viewing season mean that it is busiest in warmer months, though also gorgeous in the fall, when the mountains and hills along the banks turn multi-colored. Historic and engaging, even the rail cars in Western Kyoto seek to exemplify its traditional nature and scenic beauty. Many people, including natives, come to visit the 1,200 rakan statues at the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, which is still in use as a religious site.
