You will not see anything inside the palace, only the gardens, which are beautiful, no question. Lucky it is free - entrance as well as english tour

This place promises more than it fulfills. On the positive side: it's easily accessible and has free entrance. The downside is that you can't visit the inside area and the indoor rooms. It wasn't crowded at all and so we hat the chance to enjoy...More

The park is amazingly big with its 1300 on 700 meters. The palace itself though can only be seen from the outside. Still worth going "for the sake of it", but I wouldn't go again.

There are two palaces in the park, you can visit this one for free without prior application. There is a fixed route all visitors must follow, taking you around the premises. The buildings are amazing, and the garden is simply wonderful. BUT.... the route does...More

This is the former ruling palace of emperor before moving into Tokyo. It is not as touristy as other place. If you are into history or want to have a glance of Japanese palace, this is for you. You can only look from outside, no...More

Boring, but that could be because I was templed out by the time I got here. Very large area in a huge park and no internal access to the buildings.

Beautiful palace in the middle of Kyoto! Iconic place to visit in the city center, that gives a Kyoto like feeling, surrounded by cherry blossoms!

Shame it rained all day and did impact our visit a little but still worth a visit. Would say you need a maximum of 90 mins to see, so easy to plan in. Easy to find you can't miss it. Good for pictures and nice...More

The guided tour was worth it for the interesting information but you can wander the grounds by yourself. You are not allowed in any of the buildings either way.

A lovely walk around the Imperial Palace ground. The audio guide using iPhone app is succinct, brilliant and informative.

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of

Our impression is that reservations are highly preferable if not required and we were able to do that on line on a couple weeks in advance on their website. There are Japanese language and English language tours which are... More
