If you have limited time there, just buy a ticket to visit the temple's beautiful zen and tranquil garden. It's worth it.

Many of the temples in Kyoto light up their grounds in the fall for foliage viewing. Kodaiji was nicely lit up with balance of water and different colored leaves. Oh, and the walk in the lit up bamboo forest. It was beautiful. We also got to enjoy a short light show. Search kodaiji illumination to get dates/hours of operation

The temple as well as the various gardens are simply peaceful as well as elegant. Take the time to simply take in the beauty and meditate.

Came here after strolled down sannen-zaka & ninen-zaka path before the temple closed. Contrast with the crowded tourist favourite spot Kiyomizu-dera temple, I found not so much tourist came here at that time, so we could enjoy this place more. Sit down in the timber finished floor veranda while facing the beautiful zen garden gives us a sense of peace.... More

Kodai-ji Temple is particularly beautiful at night time when illumination decorations are lid. We have visited this place in day time during our trip here by late November and the fall colors seemed to disappear. Nonetheless the bamboo garden was pleasant for visitors.

Best place to visit if it is illuminated during nights. if you are visiting during fall or cherry blossoms, this is a must go. Brig your best cameras.

We visited after sunset, just few minutes walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Definitely a different feel when you visit the temple at night time, they have a light shows, make sure to visit if you´re going by this time of the year.

I came here on a Sunday night, which in hindsight was not the best idea! The line is much longer than it looks from the outside, because it snakes up a hill. The illuminations were truly amazing though (the best of the three I saw while in Kyoto), and when you're inside the crowds don't seem that bad because the... More

After experiencing the day time autumn colours last night, I came back to this amazing temple this year for the night time illumination. The autumn colours were in full blast, while it was not as spell binding as eikando or kiyomizudera. Kodaiji has other tricks on its sleeves. The light show was the main highlight. It features the wonderful autumn... More
