We only visited this peaceful temple during nighttime. Never expected the atmosphere was so peaceful and got mood of zen. Of course, the red maples not so sharp and beautiful as in daytime. However, it did have awesome view especially the little pond with moonlight...More

As part of a loop around the various shrines and temples Kodai-ji is worth seeing. The grounds around it are pleasing on the eye and very peaceful.

This temple is beautiful. It has peaceful gardens with a little bamboo grove which is reminiscent of Arashiyama.

Very interesting but if you only have a short time in Kyoto you can give this one a miss. Big white buddha nearby is good.

Went for the night illumination and the views and atmosphere was great. The reflection of the lights on the calm pond waters were fantastic. A small bamboo groove to walk through, uphill and downhill so not stroller friendly. A good place to visit if in...More

Enjoyed this peaceful temple. It had a lovely Bamboo grove and pretty gardens. It was a Thursday evening mid November and was not overly crowded. It was very peaceful and a nice way to spend an hour.

At kodaiji site there is a separate info for 'illumination'. Also helpful is japan-guide for general information.
