We did the walk in winter which was probably not the best time. It was really like walking next to a drain with a bunch of sticks fro trees. BUT using my imagination I would imagine when the trees are in bloom this would be spectacular. Probably not worth the effort in winter but a must at other times

We went in winter and it was still gorgeous! I would totally recommend going during the spring/summer when things are greener, although we still loved it!

A winter's walk, but still pleasant and worthwhile. Contemplation and temples, and several good coffee shops.

I guess during cherry blossom time it might be amazing but this is quite a long pedastrian stone path next to a stream or canal. We were on bicycles and really couldn't imagine walking this path as it would have killed our legs. It stretches from ginginku down to nazenji. Very long stretch. Nothing really special. Some little shops along... More

Having done the Philosopher's Walk during the Sakura season in 2013, I looked forward to a revisit in winter, since we were to be ending a 2wk Japan trip in Kyoto. Getting there is a cinch -- just take bus number 5 at ¥230 for the ride. The approximately 1.8km walk is still as serene with loads of quiet time... More

Enjoyed this walk a lot. Found a great souvenir shop in a side street that was cheaper than elsewhere. Would love to go it again in spring or summer

I am a student of philosophy, so natually the name and description of this place drew me in. This location was also a bike ride away from the house where we were staying. And I think this is one of those places where one can go for a romantic walk, spot in the middle of town, or a pensive walk... More

For 30 years I have been coming here for a peaceful meditative walk. It is away from all the noise and traffic of Kyoto and it is a place to reflect on life and death as you walk along enjoying the birds and temples and cafes. No trip to Japan is complete without walking The Path of Philosophers.

I would want to go back to this place and just feel the serenity of being close to nature. This is must-see place when you are in Kyoto. The long walk is worth it.
