We just got back from this amazing experience. Prepare to dress down completely (no undergarments allowed) but there is gender segregation. Very well organized and clean. A bit pricey, considering if you are staying in Kyoto and taking a taxi etc. but well worth it....More

This onsen is a short walk from the train station. It's not fancy, but it is a nice simple outdoor onsen that lets you rest looking out to the hills.

I love the hike over the hill from Kibune and this onsen is a perfect finish to a beautiful day. It can be crowded at peak times, but as evening falls you may find yourself alone sometimes. It's a perfect spot for a cold day....More

I did the outdoor option only because it was cheaper and I was not disappointed! I don't know what the view is like for the men's section but the ladies section had a breathtaking view of the mountain side. And for 1,000 yen I could...More

Contrary to popular reviews that this is an excellent onsen, I felt it was average only. Yes it’s an outdoor onsen but the views are nothing to shout about. Pretty small hot springs and I wasn’t impressed. However, after a hike at Kumara it’s definitely...More

The area is beautiful and the onsen completed the journey to Mt. Kurama. Excellent staff, delicious food, healing atmosphere. Compared to previous trips to Japan which included an onsen visit, my stay at Kurama relaxed and soothed my mind. Highly recommend this onsen and appreciated...More

We had planned to hike from Kibune to Kurama but sadly the track was closed due to a fallen tree. instead we got the train to Kurama and explored the small town. The onsen is relatively easy to find, despite being on the edge of...More

My wife and I hiked from Kibune to Kurama, and finished our hike by soaking in the onsen. It was relaxing and rejuvenating! A must for anyone that likes onsen. The pool is small, but adequate because it was not crowded.

Worth the travel! Allot half a day to tour this area. Very relaxing with great view from the outdoor bath.

Taking the narrow gauge train to the mountains near Kyoto is delightful. We disembarked at Kibune and walked the road along the stream for about 20 minutes. Not much happening in Kibune in October so we started the trail up the mountain. Even in the...More

Hiking from Kibune to Kurama or vice versa , you need to go through Kurama-dera Temple . There is an entrance fee of about maybe JPY200/= or JPY300/= I highly recommend the hike !

This onsen is separate baths. Meant to be strict on tattoos. I have a small tattoo and saw people with tattoos in there.
