It's very beautiful during spring, one of the best spots to see cherry blossoms. This park is centrally located in Gion, close to many famous temples, shops and restaurants.

Maruyama Park should be high on your list of places to visit in Kyoto. We were there in November, so plenty of Autumn colour still around. A very popular place with plenty of younger Japanese dressed in their traditional gear. Some amazing shrines, temples and...More

My wife and I visited this park after our visit to Yasaka Shrine, as it is just next to it. This park would be spectacular in Spring, during the cherry blossoms.

The park is nestled at the base of a heavily forested hill. Its a combination of pathways, benches to sit on, elegant little bridges over shallow streams and a lot of greenery. Numerous Japanese citizens can be seen promenading in traditional dress and it does...More

Lovely park during the cherry blossom time. There are a few nice restaurants nearby plus it is close to the Chion temple and Yakasa Shrine.

Maruyama Park is a nice one to visit while in Kyoto, it is very calming and relaxing. It is a typical Japanese park with a lot of cherry trees. We visited at the end of Sep so no cherry blossoms viewing for now.

This park is in decay I think. It is really not beautiful, it looks like nobody has paid attention to cutting the grass or cleaning the water for a long while. Such a shame.

I stumbled upon Maruyama park while wandering around Kyoto one day. It's amazing how many people are so busy seeing Yasaka shrine that they forget and overlook this large and peaceful park. I walked in and there were very few people, so it was great...More

Maruyama park is quite nice for a walk when it's quiet in the morning. You can walk from yakasa shrine to chion temple and other landmarks around here.
