This museum showcases Osakan woodblocks from the Edo period, distinct from those in Tokyo due to their realistic expression of their subjects. Many feature famous Kabuki actors of the period.

This art was quite new for me. Before I myself had a possibility to try printing I did not understand how the prints were made. After own experience I understood how demanding this kind of art can be.

I've been fascinated with the process of woodblock prints. When I read that this museum offered woodblock print classes, I immediately emailed to make reservations. The museum responded quickly and even changed dates when we shifted our itinerary. The class turned out to be such a simple and hands on way for us to appreciate the artistry, craft and precision... Included in Osaka pass. It is a very small museum and Japanese art connaisseurs might feel a bit frustrated as the collections have nothing exceptional but I liked the spirit of the place. They offer classes if you book in advance (there is an interesting documentary on the last floor about Japanese drawing art even if you don't attend the... More

The Kamigata Ukiyo-e Museum is free to enter for Osaka Amazing Pass holders. Unfortunately, I was not able to appreciate the art, as amazing as they are; and it had little to offer for me. The museum also offers classes to experience printing classes to make your own art: to my dismay, it required reservation in advance. Recommended for art... More

This museum was at the bottom of my list due to the negative reviews here. But since I had free time, went to the museum to make use of the 'Osaka Amazing Pass'. There are four floors. Taking photographs are prohibited on 2nd & 3rd floor. The 4th floor is where the classes are held and various displays. There is... More

This museum is free to visit for anyone who has purchased the "Amazing Osaka" pass, but aside from the exhibits on display, they offer classes to experience making your own prints using ink and wooden printing blocks. There are classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced. The beginner class is only 500 Yen and it is well worth having a go... More

The museum is very near to Shinibashi shopping district. A small building with 3 floors containing Japanese prints. Visiting the museum itself doesn't take long. However, if you plan your visit ahead of time, the museum will guide you through producing your own print. It is amazing how the wooden blocks are separate but are able to fill in even... More

With Osaka two-day pass, you can enter the museum for free. Not bad to look at those traditional Japanese painting.

Excellent if........ you want to take a small workshop. Otherwise it is not worth it. A small gallery of some nice old works.
