This is a one of it's kind visits. Buy your tickets at the Harbour office and bark on an excellent boat trip to Hashima and see the shipyards. You can only visit a small part of the island but the guide brings it 'to live'....More

Another tour not to be missed while in Nagasaki is a boat ride to Battleship Island. Once a community which strived on coal mining, this offers a glimpse of how people here lived in those days. This was also called Silva's Island in the movie...More

Gunkanjima is like no place I’ve ever been. An isolated yet well developed island suddenly abandoned when it’s purpose was out-lived. I was lucky that the weather was good with little wind to thwart the ships ability to disembark the passengers onto the island. Our...More

Read up on this before you go. There are a couple of companies that offer tours. The area you are allowed to see on the island is quite limited, but worth the trip.

The island is quite spectacular but the access area is on the one side of the island where there isn't really anything to see. all the tours have to repsect that and cruising around the island by boat makes up for it a bit.

Can’t hear commentary most of the time. It’s almost entirely cater to Japanese. But the trip is unique and the history of the island makes the trip worth going.

Bit of a last minute decision to go and see this but after we had gone through Dejima a bit quicker than expected we thought why not. Were able to get a last-minute ticket from one of the tour operators (there are about 4 that...More

Hashima Island is more peaceful and sad instead of haunted and scary. If you like 'modern' abandoned places and ruins, this place is definitely worth visiting, even if you're only limited to walking along the designated path which is designed such that you can get...More

I'd been wanting to visit Hashima (or Gunkanjima - Battleship island - named because of it shape) for some time. Very busy in the summer, a inter trip was easier to book, although with the caveat that with rough seas landing on the island is...More

I used Gunkanjima Concierge. There is no English tour guide, but the screening in the ship has English subtitles and they will provide you with an audio guide in English. It was still informative regardless.
