Amazing Family-Friendly Staycation Activity!
Mar 2021
Our family of 6 (2 adults, and 4 children ages 12, 11, 8 and 6) thoroughly enjoyed our morning of cooking at Sara's home kitchen in KL. We were looking for a fun learning experience for our kids and a chance to understand more about Malaysian ingredients. We got all of that and more. Sara was extremely patient with each of our children and included them in all activities. My kids left with big plans to cook many of the recipes at home - which we are confident we will be able to do thanks to the cute recipe book Sara provided and all of the additional tips we received. Thank you, Sara!

Delicious cultural experience!
Mar 2021 • Couples
We made nasi lemak, spiced chicken and some other classic Malaysian cuisine. I loved that we got introduced to a bunch of exotic Malaysian herbs and plants in the organic garden there, hand picked them and utilised them in cooking.

It’s definitely a great way to experience the Malaysian culture since you get to know little things associated with fascinating Malaysian food. It made us appreciate the food we eat in Malaysia so much more and the food we cooked were really delicious.

I loved the experience as we are foreigners and it’s a great way to connect with the local culture.

delicious Malaysian food at home!
Jan 2021
My husband and I met Sara several years ago and I recently learned she was teaching virtual cooking classes during the Covid-19 lockdowns. Since we live on the other side of the world, we never thought we’d have the opportunity to take a class in person, so this was a great opportunity to learn from her about Malaysian cuisine!

We attended Sara’s Nasi Lemak and Fried Chicken class. From the moment we signed up, Sara was attentive and thorough in our planning via email, assuring we had proper cooking tools, could find ingredients or alternatives in our local stores, and had appropriate technology to join the meeting, even accommodating multiple time zones!

Sara educated us on the cultural significance of the dishes we cooked while demonstrating techniques that were easy for us to follow. She adjusted to the virtual setting by offered tips on how to adjust flavors and assure proper cooking based on color, texture, and smell, and we successfully created and plated delicious meals!

Afterword, we agreed that the garden tour and Q&A session she offered while we were frying chicken was our favorite part of the class— like a mimi-vacation during a time when we cannot travel!

Hi Julia! When I met you, we were doing a cooking class together. I didn't think that I'd be teaching you and your family Malaysian cuisine, what more virtually. Life is so unexpected! Thanks for trusting me and joining my class. It was also fun for me - to be able to meet new people even during a lockdown. Stay safe! ♡

Virtual Cooking Class Experience - AMAZING!!!
Nov 2020
This was SO MUCH FUN! II found the virtual cooking class by Sara to be one of the best ways to learn Malaysian cooking from home - WAY BETTER than watching YouTube. Having Sara guide me through each step and explain all the details was so valuable and her expertise shines through as soon as you connect with her. She knows her stuff!
For my first class (I will be doing many more, Malaysian food is some of the best in the world and Sara is incredible!) , I requested Nasi Lemak, and WOW, I was so surprised by how delicious it turned out for my first time! As a beginner cook, I was not expecting that I could actually make something that delicious! And that's all because of how Sara guides you through each step and tells you exactly when to do what at the right time and explains to you why! She has excellent skills and learning from her can help you improve much faster than trying to learn from online recipes or YouTube, it's definitely a worthwhile experience.
And even though the class was online, I think it was just as good as in person, because Sara went above and beyond by helping me before and during the class with the requirements. It was an amazing experience, especially during these times! I will be doing more classes!

The best nasi lemak in Malaysia!
Feb 2020 • Couples
My husband and I love food. We would go around Kuala Lumpur for good nasi lemak. Sara’s nasi lemak is one of the best! The rice is extremely fragrant from fresh coconut milk and pandan from the garden. The sambal is made just right - not too spicy, not too sweet. Sedapppp!

So delightful to meet you Sara Khong our friendly cooking instructor. She is so helpful and guide us throughout the cooking lessons for ondeh-ondeh, ayam goreng berempah, nasi lemak, four angled beans salad and teh tarik.

I was so impressed with the tour in the garden with different varieties of herbs which I have not seen some before. Enjoying cooking with Sara and she is kind enough to share tips with us on each dishes. Her explanation was clear.

Will definitely join her classes again if I have the opportunity in future.

Thanks Sara 😊

Priceless experience cooking with a Malaysian cookbook writer
Mar 2020 • Couples
I had recently attended one of Sara’s cooking classes with my girlfriend and I actually properly cooked something and it tasted delicious! All thanks to Sara Khong for unlocking my newfound ability to cook.

I haven’t smelled so many different spices and herbs in awhile. Having a tour of her garden was really a treat, as it was so enlightening to learn so much from what’s readily around us if we took the time to learn about it. When the time came for us to cook, I was amazed at the many ingredients that were needed just to make a bowl of curry laksa, sambal and Yong Tau Foo. We spend quite a bit of time cooking a storm but it was totally worth it. Everything came together with the proper guidance from Sara with her simple to follow little cook book instructions, resulting in the most flavourful curry laksa and tasteful Yong Tau Foo that I’d ever put in my mouth.

I’d highly encourage anyone who wants to give cooking a try to come Sara’s Class. Also, if you run out of couple-things to do together, this would definitely be a must try too!

Delicious Malaysian food which is not overly spicy: Curry Laksa, Yong Tau Fu & Limau Asam Boi
Mar 2020
The cooking lesson with Sara was absolutely delightful and thoroughly educational! When we arrived, we had a light local breakfast graciously provided for us by Sara before proceeding to her garden where she educated us on the herbs used in most Malaysian cuisine. We got to identify and smell the unique differences between each of them in her quaint garden before heading back in to her homely kitchen where she had set aside all the ingredients neatly. She then explained each ingredient to us and guided us throughout the prepping and cooking process in a clear manner that was easy to understand and follow. She has broken down the recipe steps into a near exact science and taught us about this interesting method of identifying when an ingredient is ready to be taken out of the wok! We were surprised at how effortlessly we were able to recreate an iconic Malaysian dish! We have nothing but thanks for Sara’s lovely personality and genuine hospitality. Whether you are a local (which we were) or a tourist, we highly recommend Sara’s class as it is a truly charming experience worth your buck and time.
