About
This colorful enclave in Kuala Lumpur is a well-known pedestrian-only street that’s easily accessible via Masjid Jamek LRT station. Lined with shops selling anything from inexpensive textiles, accessories, and glittering jewelry to Indian snacks and the glorious nasi campur (mixed rice), Jalan Masjid India also doubles as a famous night market. Vendors trade until late on weekends and during major festive months like Ramadan. This area is one of the oldest districts in the city and a lively heritage hub representing the local Indian community. Explore at your leisure or sign up for a night market tour. – Tripadvisor

    Succesfull makeover
The many stalls covering formerly the area dominated by Indian textile shops have been moved away from the street offering space for pedestrians. Elegant white stone benches have been placed for people to rest on, this is a busy neighbourhood with many wholesale emporiums, a tall shining white building the newest one. A flower inspired awning has been erected in front of the mosque.

    Weekly Saturday Night Night Market
Love the vibrancy of this place on a Saturday night! There’s a large outdoor night market that happens each Saturday evening filled with lots of food, clothes and things for sale. It starts from late afternoon and goes on until about 10ish. It’s frequented by the locals so we wouldn’t say it is a “touristy” thing. Some bargaining can be done and it’s a good idea to look around first before you make your purchases because there are stalls that are selling the same items and the prices can vary significantly. Food wise … loads to chose from as the variety is huge.

Allow your self plenty of time, you will quickly be absorbed by the area. Feel free to come twice so you can experience it both during the day and in the evening.

There are also plenty of opportunities for good food experiences.

The most interesting cotton fabrics I found this year were from the bargain counters of the great Jakel Mall. If you are satisfied with polyester there are several Indian shops selling colourfull saris which could also be used as curtains or other home decoration. A street food market was selling all kinds of local delights but the permanent stalls at the covered bazaar near the subway station were reduced.

Visitors were mostly Muslim as the stall owners along the pathway are all Muslim too. They were friendly even though I was looking for the hand gloves and asking for the the price but ended up without buying. Crowded and busy area. Very near to Masjid Jamed LRT station.

In a street where you have the opportunity to look n buy things you will be lost for choice. As for walking through the shops n tents is a happy occasion n you just have to soak in the atmosphere.....you can buy so many things especially clothes n head gear....just prepare ur money
