About
MUD: THE STORY OF KUALA LUMPUR, The Musical, traces the story of the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur's early beginnings as a small agricultural village of the 1850s, to an industrial tin mining town of the 1880s, and to becoming the administrative capital of the Federated Malay States in 1896. It's told through the lives of three friends who find that by facing their challenges living in this growing town, they find themselves too. MUD infuses traditional theatre form with modern theatrical technology. This 1-hour musical is a visual feast that will not only excite all visitors to Malaysia, it also commemorate the bricks that built this city we call our home. MUD is housed within the 112-year-old Panggung Bandaraya, or City Theatre, built at the confluence of Klang River and Gombak River. This building rose among the KL's early architecture. A Moorish façade wraps this building, which has been classified as a heritage building under the Antiquities Act. MUD: THE STORY OF KUALA LUMPUR is presented by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), a project by Visit KL, and produced by Tiara Jacquelina, award-winning producer of Puteri Gunung Ledang and P.Ramlee The Musical under Enfiniti Vision Media.

MUD KL Show Discontinued
Apr 2017
It is such a pity that this show has been discontinued. While it was live, it was a great show and truly resembled the beginnings of Kuala Lumpur.

What is MUD?
Oct 2016
An interesting musical about the history of Kuala Lumpur which the audiences can take part in during the run of the musical. As the history of Kuala Lumpur is executed well in the musical, there is no difficulty in understanding the history of Kuala Lumpur.

You may discover the story behind of old and new Kuala Lumpur. Very good performance and entertaining. Price is affordable and you will never regret to pay for such performance. Unfortunately, this is the last show for MUD KL as their contract is over. Hope to see them again to perform here. Good Luck MUDKL!

Proud to showcase a local musical show to the world
May 2017 • Family
We finally made it to the show, and it was on the final day of the extended 3 days on 14 May 2017. Due to our busy schedules, we had been postponing the plan to watch thinking that there’s always a next show. When I found out that it was going to end in April after 3 years of running, I quickly made my way to buy tickets and made time for the show which had been long waiting in our must-do bucket list.

It coincided with Mother’s Day and we went with our 2 young kids and my mom. The verdict - all of us enjoyed the show to the most and my youngest child commented that the an-hour long show wasn’t enough. We had so much fun and excitement that the show seemed to be too short for such splendid performance. Two thumbs up for the cast and crew who had made the show so lively and describing history in such an exhilarating way. Kudos to the producer too who had such a forward sight to made the show the longest running theatre show in Malaysia.

The show is truly Malaysian, it presented Kuala Lumpur well to illustrate briefly the birth, progress and sustainability of the small town to becoming a place to live in harmony and unity and to build homes and raise a family. The main spoken or songs’ language is in English with some mixtures of local languages such as Malay and Chinese. The light and sound, coupled with the spectacular performance by the cast is simply marvellous. Guests are strongly encouraged to participate by singing along, clapping hands and taking photos and videos of the play (no flash, please!). Guests are also invited up on stage to join the cast in certain role – grind chilli using “lesung and alu”, dancing using a kompang (it was a tray made of steel!), cooking in a big kuali (pan) for a kenduri (festival or celebration) and to form a chain line

All tourists are encouraged to watch this if they intend to understand how KL is being conceived. And all Malaysians, especially those who call Kuala Lumpur their home, should come and watch it too. It is a show for all walks of life, from young kids to senior citizens. Of course, for those who had missed the finale of the show or the extended show, will have to wait for the new show to be released again at the same but refurbished venue or another venue.

The above are the points to be added to its hall of fame. The following are areas that can be improved in order to make the show more memorable and comfortable for guests from all over the world.
1. Crew should be introduced at the start or end of the show so that guests will have an idea on what’s their name and able to relate the role they play on stage.
2. Song lyrics to be projected in order for participants to be able to sing along – at least, for the main theme song for “Tomorrow Begins Today”. Or to have some easy to sing along songs (such as Rasa Sayang) with lyrics projected for guests to sing along at the end of the show.
3. Subtitles in a few languages (such as English, BM, Chinese, Tamil) should be provided as some visitors may not be able to comprehend the spoken languages.
4. The ventilation at the waiting area and in the theatre should be improved. It was very warm on a hot Sunday afternoon.
5. Toilets at the upper floor should be clean often to eliminate the foul smell.

Brilliant for musical lovers
Mar 2017 • Couples
I love musicals so when I found out I could support a local musical and also learn about the history of KL, I jumped at the chance.
Dragged my non-musical loving partner along as well.
As most people have commented, it was a pretty empty theatre. Could probably hold 300ish while our audience was around 50.
The singing and dancing was excellent, just a grade below Broadway. The audience participation was awkward (I got pulled up) but still in theme.
I LOVED the visuals though. Would love to know the artist who did all the backdrop and animation.

If I took my mum to KL, I'd go again.
