- BridstowPeterborough, United Kingdom1,057 contributionsAbsolutely Fantastic ServiceRapidKL Monorail is superb. We last used the service almost a year ago. We used the monorail multiple times a day throughout the duration of our stay in Kuala Lumpur just as before. The service is outstanding in every way. It offers frequent trains, they are spotlessly clean, air conditioned, run on time, comfortable and other users respectful. The stations are easily accessible, close to all key locations and connect to other services that service Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas. Monorail users even at peak times negotiate the service effortlessly and quietly without any pushing or shoving as experienced in similar services in other parts of the world. You would have to look very hard to find any signs of litter any graffiti is none existent. Carriages are entirely open, light and safe. Tickets make travel by monorail / light rail very cost effective. We purchased ‘myrapid’ touch cards and topped them up when ever needed, meaning we just tapped in and out where we joined and left the service. This is one of the best monorail systems we’ve experienced on our travels.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023
- Chris BStevenage, United Kingdom214 contributionsFast efficient transport into the city centreWe used the monorail to get to the times square mall in Central KL. The trains are regular and well maintained. Unlike the MRT there are no entry barrier doors on the platforms but these are currently bring fitted. Access to the stations is generally stepped and can be quite steep so those with mobility issues may struggle. The stations are open so can be warm but tend to have a good breeze being elevated above ground level. Tickets are good value as for all Malaysian transport infrastructure but need to be purchased separately from other transport modes.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 November 2023
- DanGothenburg, Sweden29 contributionsEffective and cheap transportation. One of the most effective transportation to get from the central station to the Bukit Bintang area, where many hotels are. About 3 ringgit and about 15 minutes ride in an air conditioned train take you there. Might be a problem if you have heavy luggage. Sometimes quite crowded train, then the Aircon will not work as good. You buy a token as a ticket by cash machines , only small bills and coin usually works.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 April 2024
- Matthew JWarrington, United Kingdom407 contributionsBadly DesignedI wasn't particularly impressed with the RapidKL monorail. We caught the monorail from KL Sentral station and the platform was absolutely HEAVING with people, more so than any other line. Although you can get nice views from the monorail trains, the swarms of people on the train meant you couldn't relax and enjoy your journey like you can on other train lines. The trains are also badly designed with some seats being in the middle, reducing the amount of available space for standees. On the plus side, monorail trains run relatively frequently, but unlike the LRT Kelana Jaya Line, the destination display boards at the stations merely say 'trains run every minutes' - they don't actually tell you when the next train is due. Overall, the monorail is more something to use out of convenience than anything else. I would try to avoid this form of transportation if possible.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2024

You have to get on the monorail. Takes you to all the main shopping and places of interest. Cheap. Ask the staff at your hotel where the nearest one is, and where do you have to get off. The actual on / off stations are quite close. Definitely beats the damn traffic.
The monorail ends up at Railway Central, where you can connect to most parts of KL quickly and efficiently i.e. we caught the train to Batu Caves. Oh, and be advised that there is an express train to KL airport. 55rm for one. If more that two of you, get a taxi, will prob be cheaper.

One of the easiest ways to get around KL. The MonoRail runs out from Sentral to Bukit Bintang and beyond. It's never crowded and costs less than $1 for most journeys. We stayed at the Shangri La so it was really convenient to get to Sentral.

Characteristic of the beautiful KL the presence of the
City monorail that colorful moves in elevation creating a beautiful picture to photograph. To use simple, ticket of your choice per stop with use of coins or use of cards for several days.

Convenient, significantly more affordable than other modes of transport and very punctual. We used the monorail just to take a couple of stops down the road and it was such a pleasant experience. Compared with a Grab which takes a while to arrive then gets stuck in traffic congestion, or walking and waiting at crossings for minutes at a time, the monorail is fast and comfortable. Of note, there are a few stairs but accessibility is accommodated through lifts for kids etc.

Our most used train during our short visit in KL and that because our hotel located very close to Imbi Station. The monorail and its station can be crowded at certain times. Sadly, during our trip we encountered several problems like the scanner not reading the card and line went non-operational from Imbi to KL Sentral.

KL is very well served by public transport, a little crowded at rush hour, they are safe at all hours, far from Panam transport which is indecent. There is a Mycity Pass for 1 to 3 days, for peaceful transport. 3 days for 40 RM which includes the card, after which we recharge only...

I will be in KL for 1 day only and would like to know the best way to travel from Kuala Lumpur International airport to Hard Rock Cafe and Petrona Towers, what stations would I need to alight from and what type of ticket do I need to purchase. Is this the fastest way to get around?
Written 31 March 2017
You can take the KLIA Express (non-stop) or the Transit train (2 stops) from the airport to KL Sentral (spelt this way instead of "Central"). Once you exit at KL Sentral station, look out for the sign (above eye-level) that says Kelana Jaya Line.
If you wish to go to Hard Rock Cafe first, then you buy a ticket (actually a plastic token now) from any of the ticketing machines. Change the language to English - yes, everything is "touch screen". Destination station is called Dang Wangi. When you exit, you need to use the overhead bridge in front of the exit, and walk to Bukit Nanas station. Hard Rock Cafe is on the left if you are facing the direction of traffic flow and is a short walk from the station.
Just join the shortest or fastest moving queue when buying the ticket.
Seek help from the station office (next to the machines) if you need to do so.
Petronas Twin Towers is about a 10 minute walk from the Bukit Nanas station. Just ask for directions or walk along the road, Jalan Ampang.
Alternatively, walk back to Dang Wangi station, and buy a ticket to KLCC station (2 stops from Dang Wangi).
Or if you prefer, walk across Jalan Ampang towards Renaissance Hotel and hail a taxi from just in front of the hotel.
Hope this is not too late for you. Enjoy your time in KL!!

We used Grab Car instead of taxi when we were in KL. Never waited more than 5 minutes. It is like Uber, but Malaysia based.

Will be taking a trip to Kuala Lumpur for 3 days only. Any suggestion on how to go about the place (transportation, tourist spots, etc.) Is it advusable to buy the KL pass? Is HOHO bus same as Go KL city bus? Looking forward for your help. Thank you!
Written 27 January 2017
I would recommend the HOHO Bus, it caters to tourists and it takes you to most places of interest. It provides an audio guide and has more relevant stops. You have to get a 24 hour pass for this. However, GO KL is free but caters to both locals and tourists and primarily provides a convenient alternative to taxis and trains. I suggest to visit the websites to get the routes and stops.

Does anyone know if there is direct train from bukit nanas to airport main airport and vice versa or is there one from lol sentral only. Thanks
Written 22 October 2016
As others have said, KLIA Express is the only train to either international terminal. Bukit Nanas is served by the monorail and connects to stations further beyond. KL Transport has downloadable maps on their website which make it fairly easy to work out your transport needs.

Hi everyone, need your help. I'll travel to Kuala Lumpur in September and need your advise on public transport. How to get a train or metro from the air port to city please. I know taxi is the best way but want to beat the traffic an cost..ha ha.. appreciate if you can help out.
Written 11 June 2016
Best way to escape the traffic jam moving into the city is By taking the fast train (KLIA express) from either KLIA1 or KLIA2 (short for KL International Airport) which costs RM55 one way and takes 28minutes into the city's transportation hub ie. KL Sentral. From there, depending on your hotel location in the city, you could choose either to take the Monorail, or Light Rapid Transit (LRT) or the inter-city trains. All of them center in KL Sentral too.
Travelling in KL is pretty convenient. Please try not to use the taxis. If you have UBER membership, then it is a good option too.
Good luck.
