The old mosque and the surrounding courtyard is a nice and quiet place to take a break from all the chaos and traffic on the narrow noisy streets. It offers a glimpse of what Maldives look like before the colonial era. The courtyard and cemetery is open to all, but to enter the mosque, there is sign saying non-muslims must... More

We visited the Friday Mosque on a walking tour of Male. The coral carvings were nice. The walking tour billed as 2.25 hours lasted 40 minutes and was a complete waste of time. The guide was terrible, uninformative, and cut the museum and fish, fruit and vegetable markets from the tour. He gave us 20 minutes to shop for useless... More

A complex of mosque with graveyard and mosque is the traditional Islamic site planning that still could be seen here. The shallow wells are situated near all three entrances for ablution. The perimeter white sand around the sides are used for extended use during Friday prayer. The mosque architecture is unique with ornamented coral outer walls. The building is small... More

This is a very old historic mosque, if you look at it closely its made completely from crushed shell. The interiors are old and take you back in time, for a country like maldives it gives you an insight of the people and their deep rooted culture and heritage

One of the oldest mosque at Male'. This is build using carved coral boulders. The grounds of this mosque were used as burial place for kings.

Easy to access this place and very close to the presidents jetty. Can travel alone within few minute. By walking around you could see some other interesting places too. Can get photos in and around.

The Old Friday Mosque dates back to some 400 years and has an architecture inspired by Buddhist monasteries and worship places. You will have to take your shoes off before entering. It is very dark from the inside, lit only by some energy saving bulbs. No windows or openings for natural light. Very depressing atmosphere inside.
