We stayed at Pine Knolls Shore & the Fort was worth the drive. A beautiful secluded beach within walking distance as well!

I haven't been here in years. They have done a magnificent job of restoring the old fort and have added many interesting exhibits. They have also built a new visitors center that is great.

Fort was built 1826 .. no railings around fort, so you must be very careful walking near the edges. Interesting museum inside fort and inside the building. Firing of the cannon takes place every Wednesday at 4pm during the summer months.

A must do if you are at the beach. Well maintained civil war fort. Learned a lot about what happened there during three wars. Beautiful spot with scenic vistas, surrounded by rivers and sound. Admission is free.
