The Macon fort is nice and very well preserved. Some rooms in the fort are prepared as mini-museums, with nice pre-recorded explanations. All areas look clean and the cannons were painted and in good shape. The beach area has hiking trails that are very nice....More

Fort Macon site has many interesting walks and views. The Fort is also well worth a visit. The views from the trails is outstanding. Walking is easy and flat..

Well worth the visit. They have turned many of the old fortress rooms (soldiers quarters and such) into individualized, focused displays - one shows enlisted life, another officers' lives, another focuses on the Civil War, another on the building of the fort, and so on....More

Signs are throughout the fort to be causous when visiting the site. We visit the few historical forts in the US east coast whenever we can. This fort was one of the best in showing life as a solder in the three wars the fort...More

Walked around the park while visiting Fort Macon. The park has trails with signs that point out the different plant life in the area. Visitors center in interesting and they have a nice gift shop

To my knowledge there is no place to dock a boat to go and visit the fort. The Coast Guard base is on one side and open beach on the other with no dock.
