Alva was the site of a Prisoner of War camp during WWII and it housed some of the worst Nazi prisoners that we captured. It makes sense because Alva is so isolated, there is nothing for miles in any direction. They have excellent displays of WWI and WWII uniforms and accouterments as well as early twentieth century every day items.... More

The museum is set in a old hospital built in 1932. What I liked most was what it portrayed of the history of the area, of which I knew nothing. It also had some items of interest for sale.

We fully enjoyed our visit to this museum. The staff (all volunteers, i believe) was helpful and informative. There are numerous rooms, as this was formerly a hospital. Therefore, pretty much the entire history of Alva, as well as much of the county, was covered. Students would learn much about medicine, heroism, the land run and everyday life in Oklahoma... More

Each exhibit presents a snapshot of earlier times or collections. A unique and fascinating section is the Prisoner of War exhibit.

The Alva Cherokee Strip Museum is located in an old hospital so I shouldn't have been surprised at the number of rooms. There must have been thirty forty rooms filled with memorabilia of pioneer days in Oklahoma. Something for just about any interest. Neat and clean. Items well displayed. Worth a visit.

The Cherokee Strip Museum of Alva, OK., has a unique array of military uniforms and memorabilia. The most amazing part of the military section is the POW displays. Included in this display are a large hand carved Swastika made by the SS Officers interred at Camp Alva. Photos of many of the prisoners are also displayed. Former POWs from the... More

Located in the old hospital, there is a little bit of everything from the history of the Alva area. Better make sure you spend plenty of time going through this gem of local history! There is so much to see and experience! I never get tired of visiting because I'm always noticing things I hadn't seen before. It is truly... More

Seeking information about my ancestors who lived in the area circa 1900, I discovered this treasure on the west side of town. The museum is located in the old Alva Hospital, whose rooms are now filled with numerous artifacts from many decades of Alva's history: clothing, collectibles, art, equipment, instruments, war memorabilia--you name it. Exhibits included several dioramas, such as... More

Housed in a old hospital this museum has many artifacts through the early era. Donations at the door and small gift shop run by volunteers.
