A walk through this delightful district is a stroll through time, back to the late 19th and early 20th century when Albany was just establishing itself on the Willamette as a whistle stop for the north-south train and riverboats.

Some of the houses were kept up very well. All the 80 something houses all have plaques on the front of the house. It can be a pretty long walk. We decided to drive down the streets and look at them.

This is a wonderful drive by all of the old homes. Some are restored and have the house names and date built on the front. Several were open for tours. I understand there are several walking tours available with maps from the visitors center.

Lots of very well maintained Victorian buildings and a stupendous, restored, electric power generator, mini-canals and good restaurants and clothing stores.

These homes are beautiful to see and to enjoy but one of the best things we enjoyed about Albany is the effort going on to restore their old carousel. Funds have been raised and a new building is currently under construction where it will be...More
